Motor Arm stopped working

The Motor Arm on my unit doesn't seem to have any power going to it. It stopped working and it doesn't make any sounds.

    arm does not turn blades

  • walker351z Aug 21, 2008

Arm stopped working...I made a batch of ice cream, 1 hr later ready to do another batch but arm doesn't turn. Perhaps an overheating problem? The previous batch froze appropriately, then it stopped when it was finished. It didn't labor or anything like that. Husband thinks maybe a belt slipped?

All i can suggest is cleaning the contacts. Clean the metal prongs and the two holes they go into.

Use a q-tip cotton swab dipped in hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol ... not both. After cleaning one hole wipe off any excess fluid before cleaning the other hole. These holes are a natural for catching stray drips of food or other kitchen goo.

Good luck.

When the left draw value is engaged the motor does not start on a consistent basis thus not having a smooth flow of soft serve

sounds like you may have a beater motor going bad and drawing high amps and not starting depending on where the motor stops the time before.

I need instruction manual for prolectric ice cream maker 1 ltr

fill cylinder with ice cream mix, layer ice and salt in the outer section and plug it in. Keep the ice/salt coming until mix freezes and thickens. You will know this is happening by the sound of the motor and when the unit stops turning it is done. Enjoy some for me.

Repair motor arm or make my own

I run mine in an unoccupied room with an old hardcover book and a quart soup can on top. Just a noisy beast but great ice creame when you figure out how to use it. Parts can be found here:

Hi, I hav bought an ICE-50BC ice cream maker. It is now 3 weeks old & has been used 3 times. When the ice cream begins to freeze the stirrer arm always lifts off the machine & stops working. when I...

See the BOLD section below..

You need a good simple recipe. So here is one.
(This is an unpasteurized recipe unless you boil the blended strawberries, wash the berries very well if you don't)

1 lb fresh strawberries (ripe is better)
3/4 cup sugar (most folks double this but i prefer the taste of strawberry)
3/4 cup whipping creme
2 1/4 cups milk (2%)
1 tsp lemon juice

Liquefy the strawberries in your blender. (Boil now if pasteurizing) and add the rest of the ingredients and blend.
You now have enough Ice cream mix for two partial batches. Divide mix in two equal portions. You should have enough to fill machines bucket 1/2 - 2/3 full.
Do NOT have more or less in the bucket as the machine screws up with more or less of any mix.
Insert Paddle and put noisy grey power arm on top.
Add a 2 inch thick hardcover novel on top of arm above bucket.
Add a heavy Soup can on top of this book (I recommend Habitant French Canadian Pea Soup 28 fl oz size).

Set timer to 40 minutes.
Leave room as it is a noisy little beast machine.

Come back and check just before it is done. If still too liquid add 5 minutes to timer.

Empty into bowl and add 2nd half of mix to bucket.
Clean the dimple on bottom of mixer paddle before putting back in bucket. This batch should take 5 minutes less as compressor is already cold.

Have fun.

The book and Soup can are essential to keep the silly beasts power arm from lifting up too early.

The motor works but won't turn the blade. As soon as I turn it on, it sounds like it gets stuck and stops. What is going on?

The inner gears are probably stripping. This seems to be common on the rival 8550-X-5. I will never own another rival because mine was that way almost from the start.

The motor arm seems extremely loud. Machine is

Run the machine in another room.
It is due to Cuisinart's cheapo motor.
Also try 1/2 to 2/3 fill batches.
Put a book and a medium food can on top of motor arm to keep it from lifting while mixing.

I have a Gaggia Ice cream maker but i have lost the instructions - do you know where i can get another copy please? Margaret

Do you need instructions for the mix or do you want instruction for how to freeze the mix?

Receipts should be easy.

As far as freezing, you need ice and salt. Probably one bag of ice and 5 lbs of salt.

Place the canister in the contailer. Crush some ice up ... pack it around the base about 2 inches deep. Put in a layer of salt. Repeat this until you are full --- Ice - salt - ice - salt etc. When you get to the top, stop plug in or start cranking. When the motor stalls or when your arm falls off, stop. Have your younger assistant put a towel over the top. Make sure the drain is open. Let the mix 'cure'. Go recover. Come back in 20 - 30 minutes and enjoy your ice cream.

I hope you find this to be of value. Enjoy your Ice Crean!

Ice-cream maker doesn't fit together

Do a 1/2 to 2/3 batch. Put a book and a soup can on top of the mixing arm to keep it down.

The machine does make wonderful Ice cream, however it is noisy and fiddly. Do not try the full batch as it just doesn't work. I find doing 2 half size batches works best. Also find a spare room to run the noisy beast in.
