Question about Dell Inspiron 6400 Notebook

I have to shut down twice

Hello, this is more of an annoyance than an actual problem, but whenever I turn off my notebook it ignores the first attempt, but shutsdown as normal the second time. Is this just a weird quirk, or is it the start of something disasterous? Can it be fixed?

Thank you!

Hello d-train, thanks for your reply and sorry it took so long for me to get get back to you!

I went to the processes tab as you suggested, and if anything the number of processes seem to go up slightly before levelling... The icons on my desktop flicker like they're going to shut down and my wi-fi disconnects, but then reconnects.

Sorry I can't be more technical about it - thanks again for your help,

I will first assume this is a Windows-based PC. Does it even attempt to shut down? Do any programs close? Go to the task manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del) and look and click on the processes tab. While the Processes tab is showing, try to shut down following your normal procedure. If the number of processes running (bottom left corner of Task Manger) starts to decrement (at least one fewer) then the shutdown procedure is just getting hung while attempting to close a program. Do this first and let us know.

After searching for solutions for forever, I found the issue that solved my propblem. The issue is Skype 3.1. Skype 3.1 has a PM manager app that is installed with the Skype app that causes you to have to shutdown twice.

To fix.. reinstall Skype from But before you completely install, select the options tab (bottom lef) and uncheck the PM Manager option. Voila!!!

I found the solution here:

We got the keyboard on to the iPad but nothing is happening can’t type

I have an older iPad2, and had a similar issue.
My fix for my iPad was:
I reset the system: Simultaneously hold down the "Home" and "On" buttons until the iPad shuts down.
(Ignore the off slider if it appears).
Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the iPad back on using the On button.
I've had to do this twice in as many years.

Hello, my brand new (2 weeks) DELL 1545 laptop is going into hibernate/sleep mode, 10 times in the past 1 hour 1/2???? It is NOT shutting down, just have to turn the power button on and all is back to...

goto the control panel - power options and see what you have set there for sleep mode, under the powerplan - often it can be set on a couple of mins when using battery change the setting to longer

Hello, i have a hp notebook which code 31 error on
Microsoft says to Ignore the problem, and the adapter will continue to work correctly. If the message is really annoying maybe you can try turning off IPv6.
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections

right click your network card>properties
uncheck the IPv6 box
that'll turn off IPv6-then just disable the adapter driver

Switched off at random twice yesterday and is running way slower

NP--Whenever I find that type of problem, I first suspect malware, then power or heat, and then maybe programs that just shouldn't be running.

Try running MSCONFIG. Shut down programs or utilities that you don't recognize.
