my problem is pretty much the same. you can see the image on the lcd screen but they all come out very dark. i dont know much about cameras all i did to try to fix it was what the advice said i went into the setup menu, and in to the backlight icon. it was set on bright and i set it on normal since that is the only other option but it didnt make a difference.

I am having the very same problem. A very reputable camera store told me that it was an internal problem with the camera and told me to notify the manufacturer. I am in the process of doing so.

Mine is a DSC-S650 I bought it in ´new´condition, when it arrived I turned it on there was only a dark screen, only bright images could be barely seen. In playback there were already a few photos (barely visible because of the dark screen) I tried changing LCD brightness etc but they were already turned up high (obviously someone had tried this before me) I am going to contact to vendor -NOT happy

My camera screen is very dark, but the pictures turn out fine! At first the camera would not turn on and eventually I got the battery to charge and now it works, but the screen is really, really dark. What should I do?

How do you change the setting?

"problem could very well be fixed by setting it to a lower apperture."

I had e-mailed sony about this problem and the team there said the problem could very well be fixed by setting it to a lower apperture. It's called "chromatic abberation" and it is the same problem I am having with my camera.

You have a backlight problem. Check your backlights if busted or if it has supply voltage... ^_^

When I turn on my Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W35 the screen is dark with the word "Access" on it, moments later it tells me to power it off adn on again, any ideas?

Its lens error in your DSC-W35 camera.
Lens mechanism is either stuck or not retract completely and system control sense this error. Please replace lens assembly to get it fixed because lens mechanism is not repairable.
Thanks.

In my w180 image is clear and bright in the LCD screen but when i downloaded the images to my PC it shows poor lighting and dark images pls help me

The lcd screen on your camera is back-lit and shows a brighter picture than the one you actually take. If you can turn down the screen brightness that may help. You could also raise the "exposure compensation" setting and experiment until you find a setting you like.

Using a DSC-T1, when taking a still picture the LCD screen is very dark when taking outside and no picture visible inside. This is true of the picture if printed off.

Does camera shows old saved picture correctly? if YES, then its has god bad ccd imager problem and Sony will repair it free of cost.
Click Sony CCD Imager Support for details.

If camera Does NOT playback old saved pictures, let me know.

Need a bit more info -

Can you see them menu's on the screen or the image in the LCD before you take the photos?

Try putting the memory card into a computer and review the photos.
Do they look the same on the computer as they do the screen?
If they look the same on a computer screen as they do on the camera's LCD screen you have a bad CCD.

If you see the image you should see you can have anything from a loose cable to a bad LCD screen in the camera.
