Question about Xerox Phaser 8500/DN Printer
That is a print head position fault.
The stainless steel print block that holds the print head shaft may have ink in it not allowing the print head to pivot back and forth.
There may be one of the cables keeping the print head moving freely.
The machine was powered off or lost power and the wiper is stuck between the print head and the drum.
You pretty much need to take the covers off to determine the problem. And it may require removing the print head itself. I would not recommend that.
What you can do to prevent the problem in the future is make sure the printer is level front to back and side to side.
There is a possibility that the print head itself has failed, but that is the least likely problem, albeit possible.
