Question about NEC MultiSync MT1050 Multimedia Projector

Alignment (convergence) of color panels MT1050

I've got an MT1050 that I took apart to clean dust. Unfortunately I took the screws out of a couple of the lcd panels to try to get underneath and get the dust. I got the dust out but now I've got them out of alignment. I can't seem to find any info towards a procedure for correctly aligning them.

I spoke to NEC about it and they say once the screws have been loosened on the panels it has to go back to the factory to be aligned.  Since the panels in this particular unit seem to be set in silicone I've considered adding some tiny screws to the edges of the frame to try to push the panel in a controllable manner.  The other solution I've considered is to get an otherwise messed up machine and swap the optical block.  But it seems that there are different versions of the lcd panels within the same model.  So we'll see how that turns out.  If you have another method I'd be up to hear it.

I can assist you with that if you want. It is very tedious, but can be done. You need a cross hatch pattern generator or something with vertical and horizontal lines to lineup the LCD Panels again. Tricky little procedure if your not familiar with it. Let me know if i can assist you and hopefully save you agravation at the same time. Thanks Jay

Red color seperating

If you mean the red light is displaying offset from the blue and green then the red LCD panel inside the projector needs to be physically adjusted. If you take the projector apart you'll notice that the light source is split into red, green and blue light by passing through an optical splitter. Each color then passes through it's own LCD panel. Next, each color is joined back together by another light splitter to be projected to your screen. The red LCD panel is misaligned.

I have philips model 60pw93617f rear projecton tv the picture is not as crisp and bright color off . i took apart all three builbs light i vacumd and dusted inside do you have any hints that might bring it...

When you say that you took apart all three bulbs, I hope you did not remove the lenses from the front as alignment is very critical. Some of your problems are undoubtedly convergence related and others are dust and foreign film on the lenses, mirrors and screen. I have a tip at which explains the proper procedure for cleaning a projection TV. Do that first and reassemble the unit.

Next do a convergence adjustment. This will require going into the menu and finding the convergence menu following your models instructions. If you do not have the manual you can normally find it on the manufacturers website. Your model number is not listed. Double check that you have the correct model number and go to

and input the correct number to get a download of your user manual. Find the convergence procedure and do the major convergence setup. After performing the convergence set up your set will be as good as it can get considering the age and use.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating. Please consider a testimonial. Thank you.

I can't hold on with left mouse button. Please help.

I had the same problem. I took it apart and cleaned it. The screw is located at the rear of the mouse in the center. It is underneath the bar code. It is a triangle screw but I was able to get it apart using a standard jewelers screwdriver. I cleaned the top and dusted out the inside. Now it works fine.

Seeing a blue "haze" on presentations, and when on blank screen

On the "Option" menu, try selecting "Service" and the "Factory Reset". This may help. If not, you will have to use the menus to manually adjust the level of blue in the projectin. Go here for the manual for your Hitachi and you will find instructions:

Color not as bright and clear

I stumbled upon this problem by accident... I took the front cover off my sony 57" so I could see if replacing the red IC Convergence circuit would be difficult to fix myself ( I am inclined enough, but thats not our point here )

I looked up at the mirror which projects the image from your bulbs to your screen and saw the tops of my bulbs were absolutely coated with dust......

I took some toilet paper ......(Paper towels are too rough-at leats the ones I had at the time) and dampened it with windex and softly clenaed the bulbs...dont be in a hurry. You can make it easier to see what your doing if you use the mirror for guidance rather than guessing if you got all the dust off.

I can assure you if you never cleaned those bulbs they need it...

The color on my TV was soooooo much more vivid after I cleaned the bulbs.....

Usually the front panels are only held on by 4-6 phillips screws-and you may have to unplug the wires going to your speakers so you can get the panel out of your way.......they simply unplug

I am not sure exatly how the front panel comes off your model ( NOT THE SCREEN-THE PLASTIC SECTION UNDER IT). I can assure you if you take your time ANYONE can do this.........Remeber be easy and do not overwet the paper towels/toilet paper......

Any questions get back to me...

Dust behind screen

2 ways. There are two access panels about mid screen on the sides of the cabinet. Or you can take all of the screws out and take the whole screen apart ,all the way down to the lens on the projector. It is up to you. If you are pretty mechanincally inclined then take the whole cabinet apart, as you will be able to clean more of the cabinet. Use a microfiber cloth to clean both the screen and the rear mirror. Hope this helps. I usually clean mine every three months or so.

1989 RCA color track 2000-model no.p46050T projection tv

Terry, bad news, there are no "factory settings" for those alignment pots, every individual pot has a distinct function, and if you look closely at the board you will see that there are pots for each color, red, green, & blue which correspond to your 3 picture tubes, every tv has to have a tech do whats called a convergence alignment when it is being built at the factory, EVERY tv is different, even if you ordered a brand new board it would need this alignment done once the new board was installed. You`ll have to call a tech for this one, no way of getting around it, hope this answers your question, more questions? feel free to email me back, good luck, BMW Rider

Picture fuzzy on dark scenes

Well I finally had the TV picked up by a Toshiba recommended repair place and they are saying that it is a bad Optical Block, also known as the Light Engine. Total for pick up, parts and repairs is $827.00. This seems ridiculous to me when brand new TVs are so much cheaper now. I don't think I will pay that much to have this one fixed.

Bent image

Excelent description, whats happening is your set starts to show a blue convergence problem and is only correctable by replacing the blue convergence amplifier IC,the set has 3,one for each color, not all of them develope problems but they all develope loose conections, after the IC has been replaced there are adjustments to do.If you are familiar with tv service this information will give a place to start but if you are not too familar be safe and call a servicer to help you.Lets US know how it goes.
