How do I restore my computer to factory settings?

you could try to reinstall windows if thats what you want to do then you will need the restore cd or dvd that came with your pc or laptop if you didnt get one then it could be stored on a partition on your pc or you might be able to burn a recovery cd or dvd from your pc or laptop depending on the make of it....if its recovery cd or dvd put it in dvd drive then restart your pc you might have to set your pc to boot from cd dvd by pressing the F12 key or F2 key when the pc is on the first screen when it starts ....look on youtube to see how to install windows xp or vista or windows 7 if you reinstall windows it will wipe everything off your pc returning it to the state it was when you bought it..if its on partition then restart the pc when on setup screen press F10 or F11 or both and wait for the windows to load then do a full destructive recovery again it will wipe everything off your pc...after dvd reinstall you might need to install utilities cd to connect to internet and sound on your pc like LAN card or Ethernet card but if its the second way of installing then i think they install with the new instalation...and the third option click on start then all programmes then accessories then look for burn restore cd or dvd when you do that follow the first install option i suggested ....dont forget to look on youtbe to see how to install your version of windows...bonnell

Can a SATA CD-RW drive be used in a Dell 3000 with IDE drives? I didnt know and bought a dumb CD-RW that turned out to be SATA. All I want to do is replace the non-working CD drive currently in the thing....

Not without adding a SATA drive controller card to the computer. If you can afford it, hang on to the SATA unit, as your next computer will definitely use it, and buy another PATA drive for this computer.

Back in 2000 i bought this computer, it didnt come with a disk, but system restore was working fine till around 2006, when system restore crashed and corrupted, and i've been playing my pc from that time...

OK, well since system restore has been damaged and no longer usable. There is only one thing you can do, and that is to obtain an XP SP2 Install CD, insert in to the CD drive and set BIOS to Boot from CD, when it does, choose full install, and Format you drive to NTFS, and go on to install the Windows XP SP2 software. This will then return your PC to the way it was originally.
It would pay also to obtain ALL the drivers for your PC, and store on a USB stick, that way you can install your network video card audio card etc, IF the XP install doesn't have them.. However usually XP will install Generic drivers just to get you going, and then you can go online and download the newest ones and install.
When you do this ALL information will be erased so anything you wish to save Back it up FIRST.

There are many places to obtain a XP CD, you could try you will need a torrent client to download this...

Hi there,
  • Firstly ,make sure that you have installed the audio driver on your PC. Or if u didnt install it, you can download and install it from Gateway Site here:
  • And also check the audio cable connector. (Connect the audio cable / speaker to the sound card of your computer.)
You could find User manual here: LINK

Have a nice day! you could ask me if you need more in assist, i would be glad to help :) (more info would be useful)

though itz unclear to me of wat os u r using..
assuming that u r using win xp pro sp2..n directx installed..
check if Audio device is enabled in bios..

howevr, download microsoft kb888111 update n install it..u need to re-install or update the device driver (may b manually)..logon to internet n seek the package/audio driver..along wid the company, there will b a list of such site n driver download links if u search by the model name on a search engine like google..
download them onto a location; if the driver is in a zip format, unzip it,if itz in .exe form, just run it; if done manually it'll ask for the correct driver and location; relocate the path and a .inf file (wat it'll ask for)....goto the device manager n verify, if installed properly..!!
also download n install k-lite mega codec pack....

if not fixed try using a standby pci snd card (in such case it'll b a confirmed case of ur system board is likely to b defective)..
but always better to consult ur system admin/vendor....

When i try vidio clips the sound and the vidio ,stops few seconds and starts again and does it again and again .

it may be that your graphic card is not powerful enough to handle 3D and animation programs like watching video clips on the internet, movies on your computer etc.
try upgrading your graphic card to a more powerful ones like ATI and Nvidia graphics, both manufacture good graphics card.
If you want to upgrade, consider the following:

your system slot type: PCI, AGP, or PCI-express. read your PC manual for the correct card type.
Purchase the correct video card type based on your system slot type.
also look for graphic cards with more memory .

Please rate this solution. Thanks

The original CD (XP Home SP2) can be purchased directly from HP here:

If not, you can simply buy a copy of Windows XP and install it fresh.
