Question about Technics SL-1210 Turntable

1 Answer

Turntable power seems to be lightly surging

The light under the on/off switch is blinking slightly when the table is turned on. I can hear how the sound of the record is being affected at the same time the light blinks. I have a CD tuntable hooked up to the same power source and that is working fine. What could be causing that power to be surging like that? The table is brand new out of the box 3 days ago. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like a voltage regulator on the mothboard is going out. Avoid going in there, you really could fry yourself poking around in there. Check out these guys. They're top notch

My Optimus LAB 1100 is playing 45s ok but the 33s sound like the chipmunks

the turntable speed is incorrect
adjust with the speed control setting
many quality turn tables have bar codes around the outside edge and when viewed under a light those bars appear to be stationary when the correct table speed is set
It is a strobe affect in time with the frequency of the light

Just bought an Anders all in one player. The 33 1/3 speed is slightly slower. Cannot seem to get it to run correctly. any ideas?

If it is a fairly cheap unit there may not be an area where you can adjust the speed of the turn table
on better machines there is a variable rheostat where by you can adjust turntable speed
quality machines will have the edge if the turntable marked with what looks like bars
This is not decoration but when viewed under a light bulb will appear as stationary bars when running at the correct speed or as a blur when at the incorrect speed
It works like this
the bars are in effect a strobe that is affected by the light frequency or power hz so that when the strobe affect is exact the bars appear stationary
( like disco strobe )
so if your player has these bars on the edge , then check the actual speed with a bulb light Remember stopped bars is exact speed
If the turntable doesn't have these bars then most good home entertainment shops will have a paper plate that can be put on the turn table and the effect will be the same
other than that talk with a good radio repairer shop and have the variable control installed in the power circuit for the turntable motor .

One of my DJ turntables = only left side stereo sound

need to narrow it down, using 1 turn table ONLY with the mixer on channel 1 (the chanel that is working) to test reciever is working properly and sound working on both side of the speakers, this eliminate the first turn table. Next, disconnect the working turn table (1) and connect your second turn table to the same chanel and see if you getting the sound coming chanel 1 just as your first turn table did. If you getting sound coming out from turn table on ch1 than is not the turn table issue. It will be you mixer having problems. You cant solve the problems having everything connected. Testing one turn table at a time using working chanel on the mixer to see if both turn table working properly. If you use the same chanel testing both turn table and the second one does not work than it will be one of your turn table is faulty. Note: if you find and test both of your turn table is working properly than it will be your mixer. good luck and hope that help..

Nothing happen when pressing the Start/Stop button.

One ov my decks (same Gemini PT-1000 II) had the same problem. Just open it and clean the micro switches underneath the big buttons. It worked fine for me.

Turntable Issues

Check to make sure that your voltage setting is set correctly. Look under the turntable platter. You'll see a voltage selector. Make sure it's properly set for your area (115V or 220V).

If this does not solve the problem, or you have a turntable that does not have the voltage setting feature, then you might have a faulty turntable drive issue or an issue with the power, which means something is wrong on the main board (located underneath the turntable platter).

Power Issues or Drive Issues??

First and foremost, check to see that your turntable is set to the correct voltage setting for your area.

Remove your slipmat, as well as any rubber mat you might have on the unit. You want to expose the metal turntable platter. On the platter you'll see 2 holes on opposite ends. Rotate the platter to the 9 o'clock position. You'll see a voltage switch - 115V / 220V - make sure it's set to your country's setting:

U.S. / Japan / Canada: 110-115V

IF, you do not see this option on your turntable, then you do not have a Dual Voltage turntable. Now your talking about damage to the drive system. Which is comprised of various circuits, of which anyone of them could be bad. At this point, you'll have to take it to a reputable service center to have it diagnosed.

The turntable won't turn off.

The ole' wife hit the turntable with a tennis ball while playing with the dog accident. Very familiar with it. You can try a couple of different things...

1) Go inside the turntable, and see if you can fix it. Often times, there is a spring or bearing underneath the button, which has come dislodge. Just a matter of getting in there and putting it back.

2) See if some electrical contact spray does the trick. This stuff works great. and it's also available at most Radio Shack's now.

3) Just unplug it when u want to turn it off. Although, this is not really recommended, as your unit will be prone to slight surges and sparks - unless you just connect it to a power surge protector with a switch on it.

If all else fails, bring it to a service location for assistance. Shouldn't cost too much to fix, unless... the switches underneath the buttons are broken and need to be replaced. The switches are inexpensive ($5-10 part), but they'll get you on labor.

Technic 1200 mk2 turntable wont spin

need to know if it powers up. Does it try to spin, do you hear it trying to spin? More than likely the on/off switch went bad. No, I am not referring to the ON/OFF knob. THere is a switch this engages when turned. The part is S601. You might also want to replace the Start/Stop switch as well. If neither work, then the issue is on the main PC board, and probably IC101, or IC201 with the problem. At this stage, you will have to have a service tech look at your unit.
