F DL is a code for door lock failure. Either the door latch is bad or the main control is not sensing the door latching and is giving the code. Many times it is a bad connection where the door latch wires connect to the main board.
Post back with any questions.

- This is most common on the HE4's. If this is what you have, you can remove the top of the machine by removing the 3 screws at the back of the top. The top will slide back and up. The main control is mounted at the top rear of the machine. The door latch wires are the pink ones marked dl1 and dl2.
If you will post the complete model number from the machine I will try to walk you through the diagnosis and repair.

- The actual repair is not to bad but you may need to check some voltages with a volt/ohm meter to figure out whether the problem is in the board or the latch. You also want to make sure the part of the latch attached to the door is not broken.
If you have a tech come fix it, replacing the board will be in the $400 range, replacing the latch will be $200-$250. The good news is that the older HE3's have very few board failures. If it is less than 2 yrs old you may still have warranty on the control boards. Check your owners manual.
If you don't have a meter to check it with, this is how I would diagnose it.
When you start the cycle you should hear a slight click coming from the back of the machine followed by a louder click at the door latch in the front. This will repeat a couple times as the board checks the latch. If you hear the quieter click at the back but not the louder click in the front, then usually I find the problem is in the control or the connections at the control. If you hear the loud click in the front but the board still gives the code, I usually find the door latch to be the problem.
If the door is locked and you need to get it open, remove the lower front panel from the front of the washer. There are 3 screws holding it. It will slide down and off. You can reach up to the bottom of the door latch and feel a plastic tab hanging from the latch. Pull this tab down and the door will unlock. There is also a tech sheet behind this panel with all the specs for checking the components.
If you want to try the repair yourself, post an email address and I will send you a repair manual in PDF.
