Question about Whirlpool Calypso GVW9959K Top Load Washer

Stops in the middle of the cycle. Now it has now power

I got this machine in a garage sale for $100. Ever since we had it, the timer stops in the middle of the and will stay in that mode(if it gets stuck in the rinse cycle, it continues to add water) until you unplug it. Then, after 5 minutes or so, you can plug it back in and it will continue until it stops again. Sometimes it will go all the way though the cycle (very rarely), sometimes only stop once and other times it will stop 3 to 5 times. That is the first problem. The second problem is that it has no power now. I check the circuit for power and verified that it is good. When you plug it in, none of the lights turn on and are not operational. Any help would be great. Thanks. (p.s. also have a water softener problem)

Affinity stops in the middle of a cycle a just shuts off no signal or anything?

use the following steps. God bless you

    Lid Switch Assembly

If the washer stops mid cycle the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly

If the washer stops mid cycle the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

    Water Inlet Valve

If the washer stops mid cycle the water inlet valve cold water side may have failed. Most washers have a cold water rinse and so if they can't fill with cold water they just sit indefinitely waiting for the cold water to enter. If there is cold water to the water inlet valve and the cold water works in other parts of the cycle - or to make warm water - the valve is not the problem.

    Main Control Board

If the washer stops mid-cycle the main control board might be defective. This is not common. Check other causes first such as the lid or door switch and other components.

    Timer

If the washer stops mid cycle the timer might be defective. This part is often misdiagnosed, check other components before replacing this timer.

My washer stops in the rinse cycle and sometimes in the begining of the wash cycle again

Not exactly easy to determine. Must check a few things first. 1) Does the timer stop at exactly the same places everytime when it stops? Make a mark at the place it stops and restart the program a few times. When it does stop, note if it is always at those marked positions. If so, the timer needs to be replaced. If the stopping positions on the timer are in the middle of washing and especially the spin, then the motor is defective.(the internal overload/overtemp) protection is activated,.

The machine stops in the middle of the rinse cycle and will not go through the spin cycle

I've seen this where a dead spot will develop in the timer.
First, push the "on" switch in to turn the unit off, and turn the timer through two or three complete revolutions.
Reattempt the same cycle. If problem re-occurs, try another type of cycle (for instance 'delicates') and see if the cycle runs through.
Then re-try the cycle in question.
If neither of these work, theres a good chance that cycle is no longer useful so you can buy another timer and install or use the other cycles.

The washing machine at my church stops in the middle of a cycle. When I "jiggle" the timer it starts again and works for a while and then stops again.

The timer probably has dirty/corroded/loose contacts or it has loose wire connections to it. Needs to be removed to assess.

    More info, let me know.

Stops in the middle of wash cycle

    Hi!

If the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:
It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.
It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.
Please do rate this solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

    Thanks

    Won,t drain on rinse cycle

There could be several causes for this, but probably a bad timer. One test for this...when it stops...is to turn it off...and turn the timer slightly clockwise...to the middle of the rinse cycle...and turn it back on. Does it run then?? Try advancing it to the spin cycle after the rinse. If it runs okay after you manually advance the knob...the timer is probably defective.
