Cpu fan is not running! shutdown (Y/N)

I got this error so I changed my fan (bought a new one) and now every time I boot the alarm still goes off! I disabled the fan detection in the bios but now it won't tell me if there is a problem in the future. Isn't there any way I could just turn off the alarm and still keep the detection option enabled ?

Re: cpu fan is not running! shutdown (Y/N)

Or did you connect the new fan to another 3 pin connector on the mainboard?

Dell Dimension with E187242 stops running after variable times from 5 mins to 30 mins Running Win 7

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

Ibm thinkcentre cpu fan runs on high after shutdown

Open the Control Panel. Power Options, Change/Adjust power off settings, change Sleep and Hibernate to Never, set to High Performance. A reboot everyday will reset your computer.

Does not boot, no beep, no display, fans running on high speed

Try blowing the dust out of the inside, around the vents, around the fans and by the cpu and heat sink.

Also remove the fan as it sits on the cpu and heat sink. Then remove the heat sink that sits on the cpu, then remove the cpu by releasing the latch on the side of the bay it sits in (remember how the cpu goes back into the bay). Now clean off the old dried up thermal paste on top of the cpu and on the heat sink that sits on the cpu. Put the cpu back into the bay and secure the latch. Apply a fresh coat of Thermal Paste to the CPU and Heat Sink. Put everything back together then reboot.

If the thermal paste has dried or is too thin to keep the unit cool it's like metal touching metal and shorts out the system so it can't boot.

Computer shuts down by itself

There can be many reasons of unexpected shut down of your system.Below are some remedies to solve it

Run an anti-spy ware and anti-virus utility to make sure that the shutdowns aren't being caused by a malicious program. If the shutdowns are infrequent, install a CPU temperature monitor utility to keep track of the CPU's temperature. If the CPU is overheating, or the shutdowns are frequent, then you will need to troubleshoot your computer's internal components.

Check any recently installed internal components to ensure that they are properly connected to the computer's motherboard. Make sure any new expansion cards or memory modules are securely seated in their slots, and ensure that the power and data cables are properly connected to any new drives.

Check for large dust buildups on your CPU fan. If the fan isn't effectively cooling your CPU, the overheating CPU will cause your computer to power off. Carefully pick away large pieces of dust with your fingers, and then spray the CPU fan with a can of compressed air to remove the rest of the dust.

Reapply the heat sink compound between the CPU and heat sink if the computer continues to turn off unexpectedly. Heat sink compound is a pasty substance that fills the space between the heat sink and processor, which increases the heat sink's ability to absorb heat from the CPU. But worn heat sink compound won't properly redirect heat away from the CPU. Power down your computer, disconnect its power cables and open the case. Unplug the CPU fan's power cable from the motherboard, remove the heat sink and fan combination from the CPU, and then apply the heat sink compound to the CPU--refer to your product manuals for details on reapplying heat sink compound.

Thanks .
Have a great day.

Dell Dimension 3000 CPU Fan does not run

I agree with both of you. As long as you are not experiencing any heat event (shutting down and rebooting) just ignore the error message. If the fan is on and running at a fair speed, you shouldn't have and problems.
Now should you start to have heat problems, don't boot the computer until you have a larger CPU fan in place...and too you may be able to add an additional fan to the system for reassurance. the added noise is worth the security of not having a CPU meltdown.
Those large 120 are very quiet and move air, if you can find a place to hang it.
Good luck, hope this helps. please leave rating -thank you kindly

Check CPU and memory seated correctly, may have overheated so check fans working and heatsink clean of dust etc.
The led should flash an error code. The number of flashes says what is wrong. There are some 9 codes, from bad to disasterous!

Turns on, then shuts down before anything shows on monitor

Is there more than one fan inside the computer? Did you double-check the connection from the fan to the motherboard? Sometimes a computer will shut down if it doesn't sense that the fan is turning on, to prevent the computer from overheating.
