Backing up a bad hard drive

Is there any possible way to back up a hard drive that is not responding? I keep getting an I/O error. I purchased an external enclosure to connect to another computer to try and retrieve the info from the bad hard drive and back it up but I'm getting no luck.

You really did have the correct approach. If you still can't access the files, chances are the drive's hardware or firmware is at fault. If the data is valuable enough, you can send your harddrive away to any number of recovery services. CBZ ><>

Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

Can i get rid os this

Insyde is a UEFI manufacturer which is essentially the the program that boots your computer for Windows to take over. If it gets stuck in that screen, it usually means that it keeps trying to start the hard drive to load off of that, but the hard drive isn't responding.

When it does it putting your ear up to the laptop can yield a quick judgement. If you hear a repetitive spin up, spin down cycle, or clicking noises, it's not a good sign at all. I would then recommend backing up any files you do not want to lose and get the hard drive replaced.

Tip

Backing up you stuff...

Hi,

I like to share a few tips on Backing up personal data and stuff that you have on your Laptop or Dekstop.

I know it gets really annoying to turn your computer ON then you find out that Windows does not boot up or load on you system, sometimes you will encounter issue that your password that you have always used does not work or may get an error that the user profile cannot be loaded.

Backing up your data would be the nicest thing that you will be doing at least once every 2 weeks to be on the safe side, I have done this eversince I encountered one of the issues that I mentioned earlier.

Backing up you personal data on a DVD' disc/CD's or Flash drive can be a life saver, but if you have the option on getting an external Hard drive of at leat 320GB to 500gb or maybe 1TB will be much better, since DVD's/CD's and Flash drives can also fail to work at times.

Having your data safe on a separate Hard Drive makes you feel at ease even if you encounter a problem, restoring Windows back to factory defaults will not be a big deal anymore knowing that you can retrieve any personal data that you may need from a storage device or an externa Hard Drive.

Also backing up you data just doesn't give you the option on having a back up copy of any data that you have but it as well give you tha option to get more free space on your computers internal Hard Drive and making you computer storage flexible at all times.

Backing up your data can also avoid your internal Hard drive from experiencing failures and error's this will be avoiding congestion of data from within windows.

The last thing that you need to worry about if ever you may encounter reinstalling windows is to reinstall the programs that you have installed on your computer.

Errors in the hard drive.how to fix it or remove?

If a hard drive is showing errors which are normally bad sectors they cant really physically be fixed the computer just tries to ignore using those sectors of the drive. Hard drives are so cheap now days i would recommend backing up anything important and replacing it as it will get worse. Cheers from Scott and please vote

Hey Jeff,
Sounds like this is something with info you need to keep..Keeping/securing/BACKING UP your data is your priority!! Personally, I would find a QUALITY (ASK a lot of questions.. can they guarantee their work,,- and NOT LOSE your data..!!) .. skip the geek squad - .. computer repair shop..(or some 10 year old).. I would first see if they could copy this drive to another drive (solid state) so you will not lose your data... we are at 4.0 with USB now... 2.0 is becoming the "floppy" of today..I have 3.0 drives and feel left out.. again.. securing/copying/backing up your data is paramount.. Good luck,,,

I have a Maxtor One Touch II. I went to backup my computer and got an error massage; " Grooming backup set restore point failed; error 2242". I "looked into the system" and could not see any restore...

You indicated that ..."most of the drive's capacity is used."
That may be your problem. When you make a backup you need room for the software to create temporary files before completeing the backup. These temp files are deleted once the backup is complete. There's no real rule regarding the amount of extra space to have available, but I use 10% of the total size of the backup and have not had any problems. I'm also backing up to Maxtor One Touch II.

Wt is BIOHD-08 error

from what I gather on other sites, it has to do with the hard drive in your system. From other posts it appears that means the system detects the hard drive is going out.

I would highly recommend backing up all your data as soon as possible, then checking to see if the computer/drive is under warranty and having them replace it if so. If not under warranty I would purchase a new hard drive.

It Keeps restarting at the loading screens

The error refers to a bad Hard Drive. You need to call up Dell to have the Hard Drive replaced. Make sure to start contacting a Local Pc Shop to help you back up files from your Hard drive since Dell doesn't cater to backing up of data on any Hard Drive.
