Re: moniter brightness

Have you tried using the manual controls on the keyboard for changing the brightness (Fn right arrow)?
I think the epower management is crap, usually I just uninstall them all and adjust things manually.

You are correct in thinking it may be a driver issue. Check the device manager and see if the drivers are installed. Under "Display Adapter", you should see the make and model of your device. If it shows up as Standard VGA Adapter, then you are using built in drivers and should look for the right drivers.

If everything looks good otherwise, then you are probably looking at a faulty LCD/LED. A faulty LCD/LED can yield all kinds of problems, and replacing the entire unit is usually the easiest option. On average an LCD/LED is more or less $50.

I am locked out of my dell 1721 by the system/bios password!!

normally on a dell u have to have the power charger plugged in and hold the fn key bottom left and use the arrow keys to make it brighter. however it could be your screen or inverter that maybe faulty. the link below charges 60 pounds for inverter fix which contols the brightness and 100 pounds if it is the screen.

now for the bios password the only way you will be able to remove this is the strip the system down and remove the cmos battery for few mins with no power and put back this should reset it again the company can help you with this if needed. laptop repair london computer repair service no fix no fee

Very low brightness

1. try to adjust using KEYs Fn+arrows to the right or left.

2. The components that provide the brightness are the "inverter" and the "flourscent backlight tube". Inverters are known to be problematic,so I would suspect the inverter first. The inverter is in the bottom of your screens plastic housing. It's very easy to replace and it usually costs between $40 and $60.

Dark screen/ Barely can see the desktop, I tried some suggestion of taking the battary out and changing the power manegement min to 100% , and followed all the instruction, but the problem still in pl

The screen is just defective. There is 2 components in LCD screen.
1. the LCD
2, The back light witch is like a big neon that makes the screen bright.

In your case the LCD works since you can see the screen if you get close enough, but the back light is dead.
You can fix this by basically replacing the screen.

Problem on startup with laptop combining internal ethernet and WLAN as if there is only one network connection I am trying to fix my mother's Acer Aspire 3680. It has 1GB of RAM, running XP Home SP3. It...

Sounds like the problem may be related to the power management of the internal ethernet card.

You need to check these settings in the Acer ePower Management software (usually installed with the laptop).
E.g. If you the laptop is not charging then you will not be able to see or change any settings on the internal ethernet card.

If you do not have the Acer ePower Manager installed then you can download it here;

It wont stay on

Hi Kimberley,
Looking at your brief description of the problem a possible fault may lie with power supply and or battery.
Have you access to another Armada power supply? if not does the light go green when Pc is turned off and fully charged.
I would be looking in these area's for the problem.
Good Luck,

Laptop screen

Have you tried hooking up an external moniter? If so do you have video on that moniter? If you do have video on the external moniter then you most likely have a bad inverter or a bad lcd panel.I would replace the inverter first because it's not very expensive. If that doesn't work then you can replace the lcd panelAnd if that doesn't work you have problems at the system board level.
