I am trying to install program by use of CD. My computer does not recognize or cannot find program.

My problem is similar. Windows doesn't recognize that the drive has been plugged in. When I go to Disk Management, there are four entries. The first one is blank, and under the file system column it says "FAT". The others are my C:, D:, and E: drives. So it doesn't recognize my external SimpleTech at all.

1. Rightclick on your "My computer" icon.

2. Doubleclick the Manage option.

3. A screen will appear called: "Computer Management".

4. In the tree on the left you see "Storage" and the option "Disk Management" below it.

5. Select "Disk Management", and locate your SimpleDrive.

What does it say? If it shows only "Unallocated Space" you'll need to create a new partition on it. (Right click the unallocated space, then it'll show some options). If it is allocated, try formatting it. If you don't see your drive > reconnect it.

Let me know if this helped. Please rate.

Greetings,

DarkNeogen.

Not able to detect the Transcend USB 2.0 Portable HDD in Windows 7. Although the System Drivers are perfectly installed. and system is working fine .

Most likely issue here is the drive is not formated. i am assuming it is a new one.
right click on "my computer" select "manage" from the bar on the left select "disk management" under the "storage" tab check to make sure your hard drive is listed therein the section to the right. if it is right click on it and select format select NTFS and I would suggest check the "quick format" box (otherwise it'll take about a million years to finish) hit okay once it is done your hard drive should be ready to go! windows should now list in under my computer and it will act like normal.

It is not formatting., please help me

hi

follow these instructions

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • Windows installation media (and product key)
  • Manufacturer software
  1. Ensure that the hard disk is installed properly in the laptop. The drive cannot be formatted before it is installed, or if it's not installed correctly.

  2. Gather the required software. The type of media will depend on the hardware in your laptop. Older computers without a CD-ROM drive, will require the use of the operating system floppy disks. Laptops that can run Windows XP require the installation CD and product key. Older versions of Windows also have disk-formatting capability in the installation process, and the installation media is either a CD or floppy disk.

  3. Place the installation disk or manufacturer software in the drive and then boot the computer. Early in the installation process, the Windows installer has a step that will detect any installed hard disks and allow for them to be formatted. The software from the disk manufacturer will also detect the hard disk and give you the option to format the drive.

  4. Determine which file system is to be used. Windows XP will either work on a NTFS file system or an older VFAT file system. Choose the desired file system when prompted.

  5. Decide whether the whole disk should be formatted or if the disk will be partitioned and each partition to be formatted separately. The Windows installer includes a menu-driven utility that will create hard disk partitions before formatting. If the hard disk is being formatted to replace an existing Windows installation, delete the existing partitions and re-create them.

  6. Format the hard disk with the Windows installer when prompted. The Windows installer will let you know when it is time to format the disk and ask for confirmation.

this should help you.

My mac is not let me save on my simpledrive, it lets me take them off file

Check the file system the drive is using under Disk Utilities.

It has probably been formatted as NTFS since you're able to read the files but not write them.

You'll need to Erase the drive under disk utilities and give it the MS-Dos format in order to write files to the drive. If you're ONLY going to use it on a mac then choose Journaled.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

General questions regarding simpletech simpledrive.

You probably have to initialize and/or format the drive.

Right click my computer and click Manage (assuming windows xp)

Go to disk management

See if you see the drive listed somewhere there. Should show approximately 950gb disk drive

If so right click that drive listed and choose either format, or create partition.

If you create the parttiion, make sure to click quick format, otherwise it will take a long time.

Hope this helps

Installed a new hard drive

Well, since the new hard disk is not formatted, and there is nothing currently on it, you will not get a dos prompt or an operating system detected. What you need to do is insert your Windows XP disk, then reboot the machine. When you see the HP screen, tap the F12 key, which will take you to a boot menu. On the boot menu, choose your CD drive, then the computer will boot from the windows disk. From there, just format your disk, and install Windows.
