Question about Philips Magnavox 9P6034C 60" Rear Projection Television

Magnavox Projection Convergence

HELP ! I replaced the convergence IC's and now I cannot adjust convergence. When I try to move the crosses in the direction needed they wont move. Convergence will not adjust and still have a wave in screen. Before repair I could adjust red and green crosses but not blue, now all 3 will not adjust. I was told in previous posting to check the resistors and they checked ok. Double checked solder joints and they are good. Anything else to check ? Is there a certian procedure on checking resistors still soldered into board ? Maybe installed bad IC's ? There was fuses mentioned in previous posting, what kind of fuses ? THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP

Sounds like youre going to need the service manual, that will give you the proper technique and proceedures to check the various voltages and what not to find out exactly what your problem is. You may have had another problem if the screen was wavey. This is typicaly caused by the opto chip. Check for more details.

There are large IC's 19 or more pins that control the convergence. Sometimes there are more than one of these IC' There are no "levels" to set. You run a convergence check from the remote. Adjust for a white cross in the center without any colors off to the side of the cross. If that won't happen then it's time to replace those IC's

My tv is a magnavox and we bought it about 3 years ago and it is now showing like a double picture the color is hazy and pinkish looking the model is 51MP392H/17

The problem of your unit is the convergence. Try to adjust it using the original remote control in the setting menu, then goto the convergence section adjust the red and blue convergence, you should move red and blue UP, DOWN and LEFT or RIGHT, if you cannot move them far enough the convergence IC is defective, replacing this IC will restore the original setting of your tv. This convergence IC is attach to a large aluminum plate it is the heat sink this IC has a marking of STK-#### followed by numbers, remember be careful when replacing this IC you may accidentally tampered or damage the PCB and cause much damage to your unit. Or you can contact a technician to do it for you and save you from stress good day and best regards. Try to check this link for the convergence,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=798&bih=472&ech=1&psi=JZdtTvDCPIe4iAe72sTABA.1315804977740.3&emsg=NCSR&noj=1&ei=MpdtTpa4OKKSiQfBpcjGBA

Picture looks curved on screen not flat and straight across. Images have pink and green streaks on them. We lined up the convergence as best we could but its not perfect and the screen still looks curved.

Try adjusting the convergence. If it won't move see below- (or hitting Magic Focus for some Hitachi’s)

This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

Red "aura" in the middle of my 55" Phillips Magnavox

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

JVC projection tv

Mike, convergence adjustments are in your menu, usually under "video" settings. You have to adjust red & blue onto the green, when you`ve done it correctly the "cross" will be pure white, if you cannot move either of the colors left, right, & up, down then the convergence IC`s have failed and will have to be replaced, hope this answers your question, BMW Rider

Typical convergence IC falure. Need to replace both at once as if ones down now, a few months down the road another one will be down. This is not a consumer or end user replacable part. As its all soldered into place and your going to need to do a master convergence alighnment when they bare replaced.
