Hold down the power button until it beeps twice. that will restart your settings for the display. once it beeps twice then turn the system1.gif on and change the default settings back to your hdmi settings. what happened was when you transferred the ps3 to composite the settings changed to accomodate that but when you switch back to hdmi it doesnt change back. the only solution is to hold down the power button untill it beeps twice. normaly 3 seconds.

How do i get my hdmi to work for my ps3 system

Note: How to reset video output settings
If you are attempting to change to an HDMI cable from a different video cable or if the video output settings do not match those required for the display in use, the screen may stay black. If the screen stays black for more than 30 seconds, you may need to reset the video output settings of the PS3.

To reset video output settings:

  1. Turn the PS3 system off by holding the Power button on the front of the console till you see the power light turn red.
  2. Then hold the power button on the front of the console for at least five seconds until you hear a second beep to turn the system on again. The video output settings will automatically be reset to the standard resolution.

Minimum Requirements

  • PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system
  • SIXAXISTM wireless controller (and USB cable)
  • AC power cord
  • HDMI cable1 (sold separately)
  • TV or display monitor with HDMI port and capable of displaying picture in HD resolution
  • Updated system software installed on your PS3
Visit PS3 System Software Update to download and install the most recent version.
  • TV "Input" or "Video" channel for the HDMI port
You need to know the TV "Input" or "Video" channel for the HDMI port on your TV. For instance, if your TV has multiple "Input" or "Video" channels, (i.e., "Input 1", "Input 2", "Input 3", etc.), you will need to toggle through each "Input" channel on your TV until you find the correct channel that displays the HDMI picture. This is important to remember, especially if you do not see the HDMI picture after you connect the cable and configure the PS3 settings. Please refer to the TV instruction manual for more information.

  1. Before you begin installation:
    • Turn OFF the PS3TM system using the [MAIN POWER] switch (in the back)
    • Unplug the AC power cord from the electrical outlet
    • Turn OFF and unplug the TV
  2. Connect one end of the HDMI cable into the [HDMI OUT] port on the back of the PS3 system. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable into the [HDMI Input] port of the TV or display monitor.

    alt="line drawing of HDMI connection">

  3. Plug in the AC power cord by connecting one end of the AC power cord into the [AC IN] port on the back of the PS3 system and the other end into an electrical outlet.

alt="line drawing of AC power cord">

  4. Press the [MAIN POWER] switch on the rear of the system. A red light should appear on the front of the system indicating power is available.
  5. Turn on the PS3 by pressing the touch-sensitive [On/Off button] on the system front. The red light will turn green, indicating the PS3 is now turned on.
Note: The blue light will also appear on the front of the system if you have a disc inserted.
  6. Plug in the TV and turn the power on. The PS3 should detect the HDMI display device automatically. When prompted, "Do you want to output video and audio using HDMI?", select YES and press the alt="X button icon">button. (You may need to press the PS button on the center of the SIXAXISTMcontroller to enable the controller first).
  7. The next screen will ask, "Do you want to automatically switch to the optimal setting?" Select YES and press the alt="X button icon">button.
  8. On the next screen, the PS3 will display the maximum resolution capable on the display (i.e., 1080p). The screen will display, "Do you accept the setting?" You will have 30 seconds to confirm your answer.2 Select YES and press the alt="X button icon">button to save your settings. You have now completed the HDMI installation.

My ps3 seems to b working fine but i cant see anything. no matter which tv i plug it into it says that there is no signal

Hi aztecruler12,

For you to be able to see a picture on the screen you need to make sure that you're on the right input. Inputs on your televsion depends on the cables that you are using. PS3 supports HDMI and Component Cable (Blue/Green/Red). If you're using HDMI Cable to connect the PS3 to your TV then you need to select HDMI Input and if you're using a Component Cable it should be Component Input. To change the input you need to use the original remote of your television. Look for Input or Source button and select the input depends on your cable.

When i tried to hook up my ps3 to my hd tv, it just was stuck on the blue hdmi screen the ps3 will turn on, but will not show up on any tv in the house, why is that? and how can i fix this from home, if...

First take the red white and yellow cable from your ps3 a/v cable
and plug that in to any tv that has these inputs and select the correct
a/v input on your tv. You should get a picture if not swap the the
cables for another set. This will establish your problem is with
the ps3 setting and not a failure of the console.

Then goto video settings menu on the ps3 and select hdmi out
not standered tv . The picture will disappear and your hdmi out
put should be active if you want to return to standered video using
the Red white yellow plugs again just turn off the console and
then hold the power button down for 5 secs this will reset the
console to standered video out.

if you need more assistance feel free to ask.

My playstation wont transmit a picture to my television

Make sure everything is connected correctly. Then, turn on the PS3 from putting your finger on the "power button" but HOLD IT DOWN. After a few seconds it will beep at you a few times. Check the TV. If the video OUT settings got messed up somehow, it should now display picture on whatever cables you are using "HDMI" or "Composite" . Hope this helps!

Have ps3 that was working fine, unhooked it from one tv to another and proceeded with holding the power button 5 seconds til it beeped twice and still have blank screen

hi, if the ps3 was working fine on the other tv and you have not dropped it or anything like that then this would point towards their being a fault with the lead of the connection in the back of the telly.

what you should do is unplug it all again and refit all the leads in the back of the ps3 making sure they are pushed in far enough then plug the lead into the back of the telly making sure you push it in far enough, then switch the telly on and then switch the ps3 on if the telly dont change to the correct channel as soon as the ps3 comes on then you need to get the telly control and put the tv on the correct channel.

now depending on how many inputs the telly has would depend on how many times you press the button on the control, the button you need to press is going to be on of the following its either av, input, source, ext, aux, or a picture of a rectangle with an arrow running from left to right, now once you have found this button make sure your ps3 is on with a game in then press the button on the tv remote then wait couple of seconds it may say something like av1 on the telly if this dont show the ps3 then press it again it should then go to av2 and keep going until you see the game on the ps3 you need to keep going until your telly is on the right input channel.
once you have done this your ps3 should be working again.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Wont sow anything on tv

make sure your cables are properly put in the correct input, also check the plug that goes into your ps3, if it still don't work see if you are putting the right video input on your tv i.e: Video1, Video2/ HDMI1,HDMI2, if problem still occurs maybe the A/V Cable is broken

It's hooked up with HDMI,but all of a sudden can't get any picture. i can hear the sound. No luck when i hooked it up with rca wires either.

Check your connections to the TV itself to make sure they are properly hooked up. Once this is done, turn off your PS3 completely. Turn the PS3 back on using the touch button on the front, BUT keep your finger on the button until you see something on your screen. This will reset your video settings back to 480i which will work on any tv/monitor and should allow it to auto detect the HDMI option again.

If this doesn't work, you may want to make sure that your HDMI/AV/COMPOSITE settings and inputs are working correctly on your tv. You might want to try and plug something else in for full testing purposes if the above does not fix your issue.

Well the first thing is you should check that the AV cables are properly plugged into the TV and console and that the TV is set for the proper input. If that doesn't work try to hold the power button down for a few moments, that will reset the PS3's sound/video output to the default settings.
That failing you can always try a new set of cables.

If these things fail it's possible your video card is bad, your tv's input may be not receiving a signal properly(e.g. not working) or some other flaw in the PS3 hardware.

if you have a SD TV. ( standard display, not HD ) but chose the HD display option on system settings you wont see picture but hear sound. and same goes if you've chosen SD display but own a HD TV. so try to reset your system somehow or take it in for inspection.
