How to identify old or new bootrom for iPhone 3GS

This guide is created to help those who are confused with what their iPhone 3GS' bootrom versions are. The devs haven't created a specific software/tool to make it easier for 3GS users but they are kind enough to tell us how.

Basically, these are the two (2) bootroms used in the 3GS:
  • OLD bootrom - iBoot-359.3
  • NEW bootrom - iBoot-359.3.2
Now, the problem is, how to locate that.

This is how

  1. Connect/plug-in your iPhone 3GS to your Mac
  2. Put iPhone to DFU Mode. (Read below)
  3. Go to Applications>Utilities> and open System Profiler
  4. Under the Hardware category, go to USB, and click on Apple Mobile Device (DFU Mode)
  5. At the lower part of that, you will find the detailed info. Look for Serial Number and you'll find the bootrom version at the end.
This is how it should look like (click on image to view larger): kid_ant_6.pngkid_ant_67.jpgkid_ant_6.png

  1. Connect/plug-in your iPhone 3GS to your Windows
  2. Put iPhone to DFU Mode (Read below)
  3. Open Device Manager, open Universal Serial Bus controllers by clicking on the + sign beside it
  4. Select Apple Mobile Device USB Driver, right-click & select Properties
  5. Go to Details tab & select Device Instance Id from the dropdown menu
  6. You'll find the bootrom version at the end of the code on the lower box.
This is how it should look like (click on image to view larger): kid_ant_6.pngkid_ant_68.jpgkid_ant_6.png

Entering DFU Mode
  1. Plug/connect your device to a computer
  2. Turn it OFF
  3. Press and hold the POWER and HOME buttons together for EXACTLY 10seconds
  4. Release the POWER button but keep holding the HOME button until the computer beeps indicating that a USB device is recognized
If you don't get it at first, try holding the buttons for lesser time.

Did Apple Fix Top 5 iPhone 1.0 Problems?

There’s no doubt that the iPhone has revolutionized the mobile world, reinventing the touch screen and adding cool widgets in a simple yet slick interface.
However, the iPhone 1.0 also had several annoying and persistent problems which hampered the experience and caused a lot of headaches to the average user.

I’ve looked into the FixYa database and pulled out the most common iPhone problems. Steve, I hope you’re reading it this time…

IPhone touch screen not working – Over 200 people complained that their touch screen stopped working. For some it came from nowhere; other had a better explanation (phone fell into the toilet). The iPhone definitely needs a more reliable touch screen to keep customers satisfied.

SMSing – Looks like neither sending SMS to multiple recipients nor forwarding an SMS are easy tasks. SMS is way more popular than email, especially in Europe and Asia. Apple needs to fix this feature and improve the user interface.

No YouTube for You – iPhone users love multimedia and surf the internet through their mobile phone 50 times more than the average user. That’s why it is so important to have the major websites run smoothly on the Apple gadget. Viewing videos on YouTube turned out to be an impossible mission on the 1st generation iPhone.

Toothache – Bluetooth is by no means a new technology; how come Apple couldn’t make it work?

Outlook sync issues - I’m not sure if this is the love/hate relationship between Steve and Bill, but many iPhone customers who use outlook found it extremely difficult to sync up their outlook to the iPhone. While there’s definitely a way to do it, a simpler more seamless process is in need.

These are the 5 most popular iPhone 1.0 problems on FixYa. While it seems like the SMS and Outlook problems have been resolved on the 2.0 version, we might have to wait and see if Apple will fix the other problems in the future..

How to use

The iPhone can seem daunting at first. You can download the user's guide here:

Just click on "iPhone User Guide" and it will bring up the PDF file. You can also get to the manual from

Click "Download the iPhone User's Guide."

If the manuals are too hard to read or aren't enough help, you might want to consider purchasing "iPhone: The Missing Manual" by David Poque, which has a lot of information as well as tips and tricks.

Iphone + windows 2000

I found a solution for the 'battery' charge in Windows 2000. Just when windows 2000 ask for a driver, choose select driver, and make it use the 'Digital Camera' driver. In the spanish version of Windows 2000 the driver its inside 'Punto de ignicion' -> Camara digital'

In english, just roll over all the drivers until you see the windows default driver for cameras.

Now my iPhone with 1.1.4 without xtra programs its working supper (at least the battery its filling up).
