I got the ipod classic 80g for Christmas. I am unable to sync it with either of my computers a desktop using windows xp and a laptop using Vista.
I have downloaded the updates for itune and for vista on both. I took it to apple store and it worked there. It also works on my daughters laptop. I am wondering if because neither my desktop or laptop has that much ram or hard drive space if it is too large for them and if I updgraded with ram and more disc drive if that would solve the problem

Connect your iPod, iPhone, or iPad to your computer.
When your device appears in the iTunes window (below Devices), select it and click the Photos button.
Select "Sync photos from" and choose an album or folder from the pop-up menu.
If you're using Adobe Photoshop Album or Adobe Photoshop Elements, you can export photos directly from those applications to your device by choosing Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements from the pop-up menu.
Choose whether to move all your folders or albums, or only selected folders or albums.
To also move the full-resolution versions of these photos to your iPod, select "Include full-resolution photos."
Note: You should select this option if you plan to move the photos from your iPod to another computer. This option isn't available on iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad.
this is not a problem.
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with
which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the
device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced
with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your
data will not be present

Reset the thing. Hold down the center button and menu button at the same time. After the thing resets itself, hook it back to your computer and re-sync. If this doesn't work, then your ipod is fu.k.d up and you gotta take it back to the store for exchange if your within your 30 day window or take it back to the Apple store if your within your 1 year window.
Maybe i shud start by explaining why most Ipods freeze or crash. When you unplug you ipod improperly this may and usually causes the itunes software to crush and stop functioning. The softwares corrupts and cant function. So you probably cant enjoy ua music. With the viruses in your computer its easily to infect your ipod since ipod is a mass storage device also. Some viruses have a way of freezing the itunes software.
When it comes to restoring your ipod you need a computer that is not infected with viruses. you need to format your ipod if it cant be restored directly from the internet. After the ipod is completely formated which means you have done away with the viruses/all the songs you can restore it with itunes.
But there is also a way of recovering songs from your ipod before formating or restoring since if you format you get to loose all ua files without recovering them.
But the biggest problem is when your ipod is not even recognized by your computer. But if your computer can recognize your ipod as a mass storage even if its not syncing your music, there is a possibility restore it to normacy. The only rist is loosing all your data, but with an expert you dont have to loose anything.
i dont know about the freezing but when u sync your ipod all the music is erased from the ipod and then your complete itunes library is loaded back on the ipod to keep this from happening u need to click on the ipod on the side of the itunes go into the ipod setting and select load music manually now to put music on you have to click and drag the song or album over into the ipod on the side of itunes
its simple just keep ur ipod in off mode n connect to the computer..nw go 2 my computer n open the ipod 4m there n copy all the songs on ur hdd...now sync n get those songs again 4m ur hdd ...(bt remember that when u connect the ipod to ur computer do not enter itunes...do it only after copyin the songs
