Question about Lexmark X4500 MFP Flatbed Scanner

1 Answer

Administrator Password Reset to factory default

I bought an X4500 from a salvage yard - it has the scanner on top with the 630 B/W Laser and 5 paper trays plus the duplex unit. It prints just fine from the network. Copies locally as well. The problem is the remote scan to one of the networked systems. I called Lexmark, explained in the problem detail "I need to be able to reset the Administrators password to a factory default", that way I can build scanner accounts for any user on my net. So far, no one at Lexmark has a clue as to what I'm talking about. I need a person from the field service support level to just tell me what they would do if a printer came back off lease and they had to turn it around to another account. HELP!

Reset password for administrator

You can reset the administrator password, but it's recommended that you have your servicing dealer do this for you as it involves getting into the system menu etc.

Here is a link to a blog entry with the default administrator passwords in case you haven't tried them.

How to remove hard drive lexmark x4500

Take off the Toploader adf, just pull it up.

Turn the x4500 upside down on the table, the adf unit hangig over the tables edge

loosen the 7 BIG screws on the bottom, which hold the metallic box

lift the metallic part up a bit, disconnect the groundscrew, the blue, red an mixed mini connector on the long side and the usb and the power connector on the short side (this one ist to disconect, with something getting under it an slightly pressure).

the the metallic box is separated and can be put on the table just lie the scanner before hangig over the edge.

there a two scres from the front an some 5 or so, from the top (which is originally the bottom...)

now turn the box upside down and open it.

Here we are, you see the harddrive, the cpu, everything.

Lexmark x4500 says unsupported left cartridge. I have checked it and it looks ok.

Try to clean contacts with a cloth napkin or cloth (and those on the printer)

I turn on my X4500 scanner, It begins the inialization, gets to 100% and just sits there. It does not progress any further.

Usually that's a network problem, try doing a factory default of the network base hold the right and the check button "go" button til you see the menu for maintenance then look for network restore part, do a factory default of the network and then restart the scanner again after the printer starts up again

should be good to go

How do I add a new user to scanfront220p

Best advice is to access the web menu on the device and log in as the administrator.
Firstly, the network scanner needs an IP Address in order to access the web menu. You will need to log in as an administrator to change the IP address settings on the device.
I found that the default "administrator mode" password was just blank - no password whatsoever.
Sit down at the scanner and click the administrative mode or administrator button at the login screen. You should be prompted for the password.
If you have a router that uses DHCP then be certain that the device is configured for use with DHCP. Otherwise, configure a static IP address on it that is within the IP range of the network it is connected to.
Once you have either discovered the IP address of the scanner or assigned one manually you will want to go to another computer on the same network.
To access the web menu you will need to go to the IP address of the device - I.E. if the scanner has an ip address of type in:
into a web browser (as though you were typing in - ONLY type in the numbers and periods). The web browser needs to be on a computer that is on the same network or connected directly to the scanner via an ethernet cable and have an IP address set statically on its network card. I would google "Setting a static IP Address" and the name of your OS.
From there you will see a "To Administrator Mode" link in the upper right hand corner of the Web Menu screen. Click on that and authenticate with the same administrator password that was used earlier.
You should be able manage user accounts from within the administrative web menu!
