Question about Garmin StreetPilot C330 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Wrong directions When trying out the Garmin 330 I typed in my home address from work and the directions led me all the way to my street and then had me turn right instead of left to my home. Right was the wrong way. How can I fix this, because if it makes this mistake taking me to a place I know, it will get me lost taking me to an address I don't know

Re: Wrong directions

I believe the problem is the street address. If your address is an even number, the the unit believes the house is on the right in most instances.

Type in address took me 4 house away from address type in home address said house was left and the house is on the right

The directions are for approximate location when using addresses. If a street has 10 houses on it, the GPS software assumes that each address is 1/10 the street length apart which is why the address might be a bit off. Even GoogleMaps has the same problem. Their locations are not always exact.

Text to speech incorrect info

Yes, this is basically normal. This is not a shortcoming of the GPS per se, but of the maps that it's using and where on the map it has recorded that certain addresses are located.

The maps that the GPS systems don't (typically, to my knowledge) have every building on them, instead they just have numbers recorded every so often on the street and then the machine interpolates where a particular address ought to be based on known intersections. E.g., 150 Foo Street ought to somewhere around the middle of the 100 block of Foo St. on the "even" side of the street. So this is probably why it thinks your apartment is slightly further up the street than it is; when people build things, we often don't allocate exactly the same amount of frontage to each street number, hence the offsets.

I'm still pretty impressed with my Garmin and doubt I could find my way home without it. Good luck!

When you select an address, make sure you select the right state/town since many addresses are the same and the state/town is the only thing that makes a difference.
Your garmin has a menu, find the menu and you will be able to fo to "ERASE ROUTE" or "CLEAR ROUTE" press it. It can be worded differently, but find the option with the words erase or clear.
For inserting the right address I will give you an example:
100 Main street, Farmingdale N.Y. is your address
touch select route, it will ask you for one bit of information at the time.
select town: Farmindale NJ, Farmingdale NY it will give you a list of Farmingdale towns in US. Select Farmingdale NY. If you live in NY.
next, it will ask select street: Main st you write your street, make sure you don't choose Main rd this is Main road not Main ST
next select number: insert 100 since this would be your house number.

Remember it is very important to select the right town and the right street to get to the right address.
You can practice by inserting addresses that are near to your location and then erasing it.

New Garmin 330 stuck on kansas

Take the unit outside and turn it on. Then select View Maps, at the top of the screen it will say either "Locating satellites" or "Acquiring Satellites". Once the garmin has locked onto the overhead satellites, then it will say "Ready to Navigate".

Locating Satellites take longer than Acquiring Satellites.

Street name that is a number.

When you need to enter an address that is numerical such as the 52nd street, enter as normal until you reach the street name. At the bottom of the screen, you will see a button that says, "123." Press this button, then enter the number (52, in your case). Press done, and it should say something like, "52nd (Street, Ave, Etc.)" Press this button, and your address should show up. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.
