Re: Hitachi 500 mb disk drive under Vista (Business)

To work with vista you must be having the minimum system requirements of 512 mb ram otherwise you will b experience slow...

if you have 512 mb ram or more than that then may be it s operating system problem just try reinstalling vista again....
and the drive in which the os lies may be in ntfs file system format ... so it is slow.....

I bought today a lacie hard disk 500GB and instead of 500GB has only 9.99 MB space. What's the problem?

Sounds like your have a 9.99mb partition on your drive with the rest being free space.

If you are running windows goto the Computer Management program and check under storage> disk management to see if your 500gb drive is there. if it is delete the existing partitions and reformat the entire disk to NTFS

I can't find my Hitachi 250 external HDD in my computer.Although i can see it on the Devices and Printers, but also there is no option of open it or do anything on it. Goodluck

Your external hard drive has no partitions so Windows has no drive to mount. Follow these steps to create and format a partition for your external hard drive.

1. Press Win+R to open the Run command.
2. Type "Control" into the dialog box.
3. Double-click Administrative Tools.
4. Double-click Computer Management.
5. Select Disk Management under Storage.
6. Find the 250 GB External Hard drive in the right pane.
7. Right click on the drive and select "Create new partition".
8. After the partition is created you will need to format the partition.
9. Format the partition as NTFS unless you plan on booting off the hard drive, in which case format the partition as FAT32. You can also create multiple partitions if you want.
10. Enter My Computer and you will now see your external hdd.

Thanks for using FixYa.

I installed a new WD Cavier 500 Gb hasr drive ot

Your problem could be that the hard disk is not ACTIVE.
Boot up with a DOS disk (floppy or CD or USB) and run FDISK, select 4 to Display Partition Info. If the C drive does not have A under Status then press ESC and select 2 to Set active partition and then set Partition C to active.

2nd partition disk drive D: is not accessible

Several brands now have the recovery software and backup of your computer on the D: partition.

You probably have XP (Vista doesn't try to stop you from viewing the contents of the drive). I would recommend using a 3rd party explorer clone to move the music files back to the C: and leave that partition alone. Also if you have not made your recovery discs yet do so before messing with the recovery partition.

On an HP or Compaq the recovery disc manager can be found under HP or under PC Help & Tools in the start menu.

How do I format a Seagate 500 to work on a Mac?

I bought one of the Seagate FreeAgent 500 devices yesterday and followed the instructions on the back of the box: plug it in; let the Mac recognize it; go to the Disk Utility function (found in Applications > Utilities); select the Erase tab and check the box to re-format the FreeAgent to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and choose a name for it.  Then proceed with the re-formatting.  It took only a few minutes but as soon as it was done, Time Machine (Leopard) kicked in and asked if I wanted it as my backup drive.  I said yes, and away it went.  Hope this helps.  By NewbieMacUserSept2007

Not able to load any os

Here's a fdisk utility for you to use: That will help partition and activate drives. If you don't know how to partition a drive, then this link will help explain, in tech detail, what you are doing: If you want more of a layman's explanation, then goto this link: As the person there went into detail as to what you are doing from what I think is a not-as-technical explanation as most other sites. Fdisk wipes your hard drive clear of anything when you run it, it then partitions the drives and activates the partitions so that a operating system can be installed on it. With your RAM, why did you even try to install Vista? Vista needs at least 1G of RAM for optimal performance, not to mention a good graphics card, and just overall new hardware.
