Rack Not Dispensing, Looking For a Replacement Motor

I have a rack in my Skybox that dispenses sparadically. The light flashes indicating a jam even when there is no beverages in the rack. I have swapped the drive motor from this rack to another and the problem followed the motor. I have seen places to purchase the racks but does anyone know the specs on the motor itself or a location to purchase just the motor?

I have the same problem...how difficult is it to remove the rack?

    Thanks

If you go to partselect.com they have assembly diagrams for the machine. You will need to remove 2 screws at the top, 3 at the bottom and 4 in the back in the chute area. The four racks all come out together and you then need to uplug the communication cable. The drive motors are on the back and you only need to remove three screws to remove the motor. The new rack come with the motor installed I guess. Ordered one yesterday for $81 including shipping. To harness connections to the card. Very simple to work on. If anyone is thinking of putting a bullet in their Skybox those drive motors are worth something if they work.

Please check the tip on the main skybox page. I'm starting to think it is not the motors going bad but the sensors.

Where can one get motors for these? I have had two go out. And it is ridiculous to spend $75 for the whole assembly.

Let me tall you what we have just learned...
1. When Whirlpool bought Maytag, they dumped the Skybox and all parts associated with it. The parts are no longer being manufactured from what they tell us.
2. We have had our unit less than 3 years and replaced the two center motors and have the bottom one going out now.
3. We are having cooling and icing up issues.
4. When you speak with Whirlpool they are unwilling to help.
5. We have gone to electrical supply and repair folks and since the motors are not marked, they say it could be one of about 1000!.
6. We are ordering parts from parts select so we have some.

I think we should find a way to rally together and get some cooperation form Whirlpool. $600+ is a bit much to spend for a couple of years use.

Skybox beverage dispenser. will dispense one can

I had the same problem. Found the cover where the beverages dispense to be rusted and not resetting. After the can dispenses, just push the cover back into position and this should help.

Dispensing Problems

I have just replaced a rack in a Skybox and did some disassembly to see what I could find. On the backside of each rack is a hub in which the drive motor mounts. Inside that hub is a card with two sensors on it which the white ribbon with the 4 wires connects to. One sensor is for the "Home" position which the dispensor goes to if it is empty. The other sensor reads a small piece of metal embedded in the flap which tucks up under the dispensing drum. It is not the flap which is just about horizontal as you you look into the machine. This piece of metal is sensed and tells the machine whether the flap has returned signalling if the machine is jammed. Ensure that this flap moves freely and move it around to see if the jam disappears. This is likley why many jams disappear if you open the door and close it firmly.

Need a part dispensing moter shot

The motor was never offered as an individual replacement part. The entire dispenser assembly was the only way the motor was availabler. Marcone Appliance Parts (1-800-482-6022) shows a single dispenser (11001187) left in their national inventory in the Jacksonville, FL location.

Maytag Skybox

Looks like I found the answer to the problem of Skybox not dispensing. I replaced the sensor in the dispensing door and my Skybox now works great!
Part is available from partselect.com just look up your Skybox model number, mine was Skybox model MBV1976AAB. The diagram on the website should show you the exploded view of the door section of your Skybox. You are looking for partselect.com part number 901892 or on the exploded view it will be number 21. The Maytag part number is 11001182, board flipper sensor. My Skybox had been down for two years and now works again!

Low product light stays on

You can go to partselect.com and purchase a new switch for the low product. It mounts on the back of the dispensing rack, item number is 18 on the assembly diagram. It is also possible that the existing switch has become unplugged from the board by ice buildup.

Lights flashing

The flashing lights usually indicate a jam or the flapper door not met which means a drink already dispensed. Just guessing here, but you may have a board problem. I have removed one dispensing drive motor and if I press that button all lights blink until I open the door and close it. Any chance you have a lot of ice buildup in the back? That could be causing a short or even caused connectors to loosen. A new connector board is $22 on partselect.com but that would again only be a guess. Check some of the other problems listed for other possibilities.

Maytag Skybox "Is this normal?"

I have intermittent problems with one dispenser and disassembled the system1.gif and swapped drive motors for the dispensers. The problem followed the motor. Partselect.com shows that they sell the individual rack assemblies but I have not yet ordered one. I am trying electrical supply stores to see if I can just buy the motor but I doubt they will be able to track it as it has no markings.
