Vaio and XP Service pack 2 driver problems

I have a sony vaio that the USB ports won't work and the sound does not work. Apparently there are issues with my model and XP Service pack 2. I have tried all the solutions to no avail. I don't have recovery disks at the moment - if I bought these would they resolve these issues

Hello geminii_lady,

I don't believe you have to buy anything.

May I ask what model Vaio you are using?

Chances are you just need to download and install the drivers. I can help you.

Let me know what model you have, and I will walk you through how to fix it.

Regards,

Chester

If you can get the laptop online, then go to the Sony website ( click here ). You should be able to download the correct driver. If your laptop won't go online, you may have to burn the drivers to a disk in order to install them.

My USB Ports of Sony Vaio VGN FW235 stopped working

first remove all the USB Devices connected to the Computer, go to Device Manager, uninstall all the USB Drivers and restart the Computer. after the restart, the Operating System should reinstall the USB Drivers automatically as the USB Drivers are Operating System generic.
If this does not work, go to Device Manager, right click on the USB Device having Yellow Exclamatory mark and click on Update Device/Driver and select search for the best driver in these location and in the location type C:\Windows\inf and click next.
This should resolve the issue.
If this does not work, you can try performing the System restore where the USB ports are working normally.

Fz 240E vaio the third left USB port doesn't work

Most likely drivers issue, Did you reload the sony drivers after downgrading the OS to XP. Thay system only came with vista drivers but you can try and reload them from original cd or goto Sony site to download. http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNFZ240E

My laptop doesnt detect USB Pen drives (sony vaio VGN-FJ 270)

Go to start->control panel->system->hardware->device manager. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers. Right click on every USB root hub and select uninstall option. They will be reinstalled on next restart.
After that plug USB pen drive to usb port - go to start->control panel->system->hardware->device manager. Click Universal Serial Bus controllers then click on Action tab (the one at the top of Device manager window and select scan for hardware changes.
If that will not solve the issue try different USB port.
Make sure you have latest service pack installed so Windows would install proper drivers for the device.
Let me know if this is not solved

I down grade sony vaio from vista to xp and my webcame is not detacted

The issue is that XP installs generic USB webcam driver after downgrade. To solve this issue download Camera driver from VAIO support website esupport.sony.com and unzip that.
When this is done check device menaged and you will find composite device under Universal serial bus controllers.Right click on composite device and select "update driver" then select "I will select driver to install myself" and then browse to the folder with camera driver. Camera driver will be installed and issue sorted!

VAIO GR214MP - Drivers don't work with XP SP2

From what I can tell the audio chipset for that laptop is AC'97 compliant SoundMax ADI, not Yamaha. I would try this driver pack for a different model VAIO:

http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/236797/sony-vgn-x505zp-notebook-adi-soundmax-audio-driver-5.12.1.3559-030903-windows-xp-free-download.html

For your USB issue, boot into safe mode (press F8 before you see the Windows boot logo) and uninstall EVERY entry for USB in the device manager. When that's done right click in device manager and 'scan for new hardware'. Once the drivers re-install, try plugging in a thumb drive to see it it is recognized. If it is, you're all done. If not we'll have to move on to something else.
