Cannot retrieve data

When changing batteries it suddenly beeped and the screen went blank. The it "Error! Consult manual." I cannot find my manual and then when I turned it on it just beeped twice. Now when I turn it on it does nothing.

Thanks. After your help I realized I had originally placed the batteries incorrectly. Now they are in correctly, I pressed the reset button on the back, and now I get the original screen message I had when my problem started, "Data Error! Consult the owner's manual." I presume I have lost all my data, since at one point none of the three batteries were in correctly. Anyway, what do I do now?

Many thanks. After following your instructions, when the screen asks if I want to delete, when I press N it the then reads in the TEL mode "ITEMS 512 MARKED 0 NAME ?" but when I insert a name and press search, all I get is a blank screen. Also, pressing CAL the screen comes up for 1998. Does this mean that my data is still there and also, since I only had this problem recently and not in 1998, does that mean that the last time I set the calendar was 1998? If the data is still there, how do I recover it?

Okay, tried that, but when I press "Home" I get a screen with Sep/24/2098 Wed and the time. Pressing it again I get the alarm set screen. Pressing FUNC with the time on as above, I get the 1,2,3,4 screen and pressing "1 Zone change" gets a screen with a map of the world. I can move the time zone with the arrows, and pressing func again gets "4 Sound". Pressing FUNC again gets back to the world map. I cannot get any list of cities. What now?

Thanks, but I can't seem to get anything except a screen with a world map or the screen I described before. Any more suggestions?

Are the batteries in the right way?

Also, you have to press the reset button with a thin long object.after changing batteries.

4 beeps wont turn on screen stays black

Four beeps indicates -
The system clock/timer IC has failed or there is a memory error in the first bank of memory.

Try replacing the CMOS/RTC battery (consult your manual), if it does not help, you might need a new motherboard.

Good Luck!

Computer beeps but doesn't start.

The beeps are an error code. Most times they are signifying a RAM or video card problem. With your explanation I would check the video card first. The card might have overheated or just plain crapped out on you. Try replacing and rebooting. Hopefully this will have fixed your problem. Sorry. Hope this points you in the right direction & Good luck.

E 18 message

Lens errors (E18 errors on Canons) are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Blank screen ibm r40e

This is generally a memory problem. Remove the memory, and try them one chip at a time in each slot. If the memory isn't the issue, then try removing the battery and starting with the supply only. Both battery and memory can cause this, but the beep code is generally for the memory, no beeps with the battery. If both check good, then test the power supply with an ohm meter for the proper output. If these three check good, then the problem will lie within the motherboard, and you will need to take it in for a professional diagnosis in order to track down the exact problem area. You might also look on IBM's support site for the beep/sound error codes and any troubleshooting for the exact code you have.
