This is your laptop's (Acer Aspire 3680) right side, do you see the tiny button in the middle? Turn on your laptop and click it, it will open and you'll be able to place a CD.
There are two ways to open the CD/DVD drive door if the button just below the drive tray does not work. Go to My Computer and right click on the drive and click on Eject. If this does not work then you can manually open the CD/DVD drive tray by - Straighten a paper clip and gently insert it into a tiny hole below the drive tray next to the Eject button. Push the paper clip gently until the drive tray pops out, then pull the tray until it is fully out, then you can remove the CD/DVD disc. If you still having problem opening with the Eject button, then the CD/DVD drive is faulty and needs replacing.
Get a paperclip - straighten the paperclip out so it is a smooth single line. Go to the laptop next to the cd drive or the cd drive door there should be one or two small holes. Try the left first insert the paperclip until it stops give it a gentle push and the cd drive door should pop open if not try the right side hole. Another option is find the cd drive on your control panel go to it and click n the button that looks like an arrow with a line underneath of it.
If the door on your CD/DVD drive will not open when you push the eject button (on the front of the drive), Click on Start, My Computer, and Right Click on your CD/DVD drive. Then Click on Eject. If the door still refuses to open, you can insert a paper clip into the small hole on the faceplate of the drive and push it in until the door opens. If the door continues to refuse to open in the normal manner, you will have to replace the drive,

If the keyboard has a CD/DVD Eject key, press it. The
Eject
key is usually placed by the volume knob and is marked by a triangle pointing up with a line underneath.
Double-click
My Computer
.
Right-click the icon for the CD, CDRW, or DVD drive that is stuck, and then click Eject.
If the CD or DVD drive door button is a long clear plastic bar on the
front of the PC, press firmly on the right side of bar. Some models
have a button on the front panel of the PC to the right of the hinged
door. Press the button to eject the drive.
If the drive door button is part of the PC case and is covering the
actual drive door, open the door that is part of the PC case and press
the Eject
button on the faceplate of the drive.
Restart the PC and press the
Eject
button on the front of the drive when the first screen appears (before
Windows launches). If the drive door opens this way but does not open
in Windows, another software program is taking control of the CD
driver. Try shutting down or configuring any software programs that
create discs or monitor the CD or DVD drive.
If the door still does not open, do the following:
Close all programs and shut down the PC.
Unplug the power cord from the power outlet.
Look for the small hole on the faceplate of the CD or DVD drive. This
is the manual release. The location of the manual release hole will vary
Straighten the paperclip and insert it into the manual release hole until resistance is felt.
Once the resistance is felt, keep pushing the paper clip until the drawer opens a little.
Remove the paper clip and gently pull out the drawer until the disc is accessible.
Remove the CD and turn on the PC.
If the tray still does not open, do the following steps to check the
power cable for the drive. Work on a hard flat surface over a
non-carpeted floor:
Turn off the PC.
Unplug all power cords from the back of the PC.
Press and release the
Power
button on the front of the computer.
Remove the side panel.
Unplug the power cable and wait five seconds.
Find
a different power cable that is not being used, plug the different
power cable into the back of the drive, making sure that it fits firmly
into the socket. If a different power cable is not available, replug
the original power cable into the back of the drive, making sure that
it fits firmly into the socket.
Replace the side panel and plug in the power cord.
Turn on the PC and press the eject button on the front of the drive.
If
the optical drive does not have the manual eject feature and the CD
tray will not open by using the steps in this document or if a disc has
shattered inside the drive, the CD, CDRW, DVD drive may need to be
replaced.
Hi overeater,
With your system turned OFF and unplugged, look at the front of the drive, you will see a tiny hole to one side. Open up a paperclip, insert it into this hole and push gently. The door will pop open. Pull gently the rest of the way.
If this has been the first occurance of this, try just turning your system back on and allow the drawer to close on its own. Then try opening it the correct way again.
If the door fails to open again - most likely the belt for the drive is bad. DVD/CD drives are fairly inexpensive these days and would probably be best to replace it.
