I have an nc6400 laptop, and I keep getting a pop up telling me that 'this device can perform faster' if connected to a Hi Speed usb 2.0 port. I get the message irrespective of which port I use.
You might need the intel chip set drivers available from HP ... sometimes you have to remove the USB ports in Device Manager .. then reboot .. that will reload the USB drivers ..

Your laptop has USB1 port and the USB 2 message will appear if you plug an USB 2 device into this USB port. You maybe able to upgrade the USB port to USB 2 if there is a BIOS upgrade available from the laptop manufacturer's WEB site. If not you maybe able to get an USB 2 PCMCIA card to install into the PCMCAI slot on your laptop.
This is because you are plugging in a USB 2 device to a standard USB port, or a USB 3 device into a USB 2 port. The computer is just telling you that if you upgrade the hardware, the device will work faster. Its more of an information message than an error. Your device should still function fine.
USB versions are USB ver 1.1 and USB 2.0 and USB 2.0 has faster transfer rate. When you're receiving this kind of message, that means you're using a USB device that is compatible with USB 2.0. This happens when you plugged in a USB 2.0 device to a USB 1.1 port on your computer. It simply notifies you that the USB device can perform faster when you have an available USB 2.0 port. I'm not really sure what kind of computer you have and what version of windows you have but you can actually check if you have USB 2.0 by going to Device Manager, click on Universal Serial Bus Controllers and look for "USB2 Enhanced Host Controller" if you don't have this, that means your computer has no USB 2.0 port. Hope this helps.
it means you have the USB low speed connection.
If you have plug in the device in front of the CPU it prompt it sometimes, try it at the back if it still wouldn't work out. Install the USB driver to 2.0 version or higher. thats it
This is not an error it just means that you are plugging in a usb 2.0 device into a usb 1.0 port. The devise will still function normally just not as fast. You could always add a usb 2.0 pci card to your computer.
Try opening up the device manager and unistall everything in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Then reboot and let windows reinstall the USB controllers. Windows should now be able to recognize properly USB2 devices.
OK to begin your computer doesnt have 2.0 usb, its just windows is telling you about the device attached, I am not sure about upgrading it, but I doubt it is possible. Now from the error you posted, your computer did detect something. Are all the neccesarry drivers installed? If so I would take a look at your bios and set your PCI/Perriphrial to auto, sometimes that will resolve any port assignments which are somewhat commen in laptops, being as they use a hub
