I think your ipod is dead. This happened to me to. I was listening to it when I arrived at my destination, and I thought I turned it off and I put it in my pocket. Later that day when I went to listen to it, it wouldn't turn on at all. Aparently, it had stayed on. Hold the pause button for five to ten seconds. The apple symbol will appear on your ipod. Immeadility put it in your docking station before it goes away. Your ipod will turn on, and itwill start charging.

I hope this helps. Please rate my solution.

Usually, unplugging, replugging it and then rebooting solves the problem.

your other options are a driver issue..either with the ipod drivers, itunes, or the USB drivers for your computer itself. since your ipod video and psp work fine, you can rule out USB drivers, but that doesn't rule out additional driver problems.

the other option is there's some kind of failure with your ipod..and sometimes if a device starts drawing power before doing any kind of communication with the computer (like when my rockbox-hacked ipod goes into charge only mode) then windows will assume there's a hardwire issue. the best way to determine if it's an issue with your ipods are take them to another computer and see if they work. if they work fine...try uninstalling and reinstalling itunes (back up your music and database) and see if that solves the problem. if none of that solves it and you know the ipod shuffles are good..then your system has suffered from the mysterious driver failure that's plagued a lot of systems. and generally the only real solution is to reinstall windows from scratch.

Had the same problem with mine. Strip your ipod and you'll find that the left hand end of the battery has been rubbing against the mounting screw for the hold button and the positive track is exposed causing it to short out the battery. Placing a piece of plastic between the battery and the mounting screw sorts out the problem. My ipod charged and the battery still works fine. It seems to be a common problem with this model. Usb recharging does not work

I have seen this many times. Your battery is most likely depleted to the point that it is incapable of sending a signal to the computer. You will more than likely need to have you battery replaced. You can jump start your iPod with a wall charger, but you lost yours. A simple charger can be bought off of eBay for less than ten dollars. If you get a wall charger and nothing happens, your iPod is dead but it sounds like a battery issue.

Ipod not turning on/not recharging

Have you tried holding down the menu button and the middle circle button?
first place your ipos somewhere flat and press down the circle button and the menu button, make sure your not touching any other part of the click wheel.hold them down for about 5 seconds untill the apple logo appears.then let go,and it should be back to can use this procedure any time that it freezes or stops working.Hope fully that should fix your problem.if not i suggest you get it repaired under your warrenty.
Good Luck.
