Question about Hoover U5753-900 WindTunnel Bagless Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

It seems the off/on switch is broken

I've removed the upright handle and found the red off/on switch. If I turn it on with the switch sometimes it comes on and sometimes not. Two questions: (1) how do I take the body apart to get to the switch in order to remove it and (2) where is the best place to get a replacement?

Re: It seems the off/on switch is broken

Remove the tools from the front of the tool storage. You will find three screws recessed in there, two on the bottom and one at the top. Once removed, the tool compartment will slide out and the switch will be accessable.
You should be able to find a switch in any vacuum repair shop.

NOTE: Some models have FOUR screws. Two on the top and two on the bottom. They should be easy to find.

Is the brush always supposed to turn, even when upright?

I have a similar Hoover upright and the brush roller continues to revolve even with the handle locked and the hose detached for direct pickup. Seems rather odd to wear out the carpet that way.

Brush drive unit not turning, button on side has been depressed as reset, button on handle has power to it and drive appears to have suitable tension which would suggest drive belt has not snapped.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC24. Although you've already tried pressing the reset button, you might find it helps to use something like the blunt end of a pen or pencil to do this, and make sure you push it in firmly until you hear an audible 'click'.

Please note, the brushbar will never rotate when the cleaner is standing in the upright position, or if you've turned it off using the silver switch next to the red on/off switch.

Hopefully this should resolve your issue. However, if you're still having difficulties, please get in touch with us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you and provide the assistance you need.

Kind regards

My new Hoover Wind Tunnel Upright UH50000 will not turn off unless I unplug it.

First I would be sure the handle was properly installed. Remove the two screws holding the upper handle in place and tap it bacwards to remove it. Set the switch inside to the OFF position. Next set both buttons on the handle to the OFF position and re-install the upper handle. If the switch still does not turn the vacuum on and off, the switch will need replacement.

Beater brush

Note: The brush will not rotate when the machine is locked in the upright position, because an internal micro-switch turns the brush motor off.

- Make sure brush switch on the handle is on.

- Check the belt through the clear brush cover. If this appears damaged or broken, take your machine to a local BISSELL Authorized Service Center to have it replaced. If the belt is intact, please continue checking the following:
- Ensure both power switches are turned on when you check for brush rotation.
- Unplug the power cord and remove the handle completely. Slide handle back into the lower section of handle, ensuring the screw is in tight. If the handle is not aligned properly, this will affect the power of the brush motor.
- Look for debris wrapped around the brush (i.e. string, hair, fibers, etc.). When the machine is unplugged, cut away any visible hair, fibers or debris from the brush roller. This brush is NOT removable from the machine.
- If something has become lodged in the foot and the brush shuts off, turn off the vacuum and unplug this from the outlet. You can now remove the obstruction. The brush will automatically reset when the vacuum is plugged in and turned back on.

Handle release does not work, seems to be stuck in the downward position and does not keep handle in operating mode

I had the same thing happen to mine and I disassembled the handle area. It was not broken and only needed to be put back in place and has worked since then although I'm very careful when I use the trigger now. Hope this helps.

Handle wont go to upright position

The red pedal has slipped out of position. On both ends of the red pedal you'll see metal rods (the axel of the pedal). On one side you'll see the metal rod sits into a long groove, on the other side you'll see the metal rod sits into a round hole. They both have to be in the long grooves so you have to reposition the rod that's into the round hole by pulling it out and sliding it back into the long groove above the round hole. You'll now be able to bring the handle up and lock the machine back into the upright position.

Hoover Windtunnel

Take the handle off, then remove the tool holder, then you can get to the switch. Just has tabs on each side of switch, depress them and push it out. These switches will do this after awhile, replacing them is usually the way to correct the problem.

It seems the off/on switch is broken

Sounds like a Hoover, which you had given the model number. But there are 2 or 3 screws to remove the handle, then there are 4 screws in the tool compartment, open the filter door, then the tool comp. should pull out, the switch part # is40309033.
If it is different then this pic, let me know:
