Question about Sharp R-820B Convection/Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Nothing happens.. I went to use it, selected the cook time (microwave mode) and hit start. The display went black. i didn't hear a sound. it had only been (infrequently) for less than a year. No warranty-purchased at wal-mart as a display model. calling sharp was useless.. sent me to sears and they don't work on them. i didn't pay over $150 for it. what would be wrong with it, could it be fixed?

Re: nothing happens..

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

I would suspect it needs a new high-voltage capacitor and a fuse.

If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:

Actually, we also have the full service manual for this model on our site, linked above.

My microwave stopped working you can input time but when you push start nothing happens it has power and everything just will not start its like the start button does not work

Possibly a bad door switch behind the holes where the latch hooks go into. Usually with the bad switch the timer counts down but nothing runs. It all depends on which switch is bad. Usually 3 switches inside.

If the timer counts down and nothing else happens, the secondary interlock switch is bad. This switch completes the cook circuit and this is why it doesn't run. You need an ohm meter to diagnose and find the right switch. Switch failure is caused by opening the door when it is in cook mode. Push the stop button first before opening the door and this failure will cease to occur. BE CAREFUL !!

JennAir Microwave worked one minute then won't the next.

If this microwave is more than a couple of years old, it's possible that the magnetron tube or a rectifier has burned out. You'll probably need to take it to an experience microwave service technician to get a diagnosis.
