Make sure it has a good airflow around it, check the vents to see they are not blocked off by some object or dust. I suspect the safety sendor is turning the unit off to perevent overheating.

Microwaves that are contained in nooks and cabinets suffer from this problem regularly

probably fryed the magnetron, with something like foil or metallic, try unplugging it for 12 hours maybe it will reset if not throw it out

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes.

HI, the loud popping noise was the Magnetron tube. this is the main heating device. the noise filter is also damaged and, should be replaced as well.

In conclusion, replacing the Magnetron tube and noise filter will fix this unit.
