Re: MFC 5840CN printer doesn't see the paper fed

Mine did the same thing, I had dropped some papers behind it and when I moved the machine slightly to retrieve them, I unsnapped one of the tabs on the bottom of the the back panel. It is a curved panel on the back you can feel if you reach behind the machine from the middle of the doc feeder, it snaps right back in. I had pulled one of the tabs out and no more paper feed. The panel will pull off completely, I am assuming to clear paper jams, but I did not realize that. ( DUH ) $45.00 later and some snickering from the tech that fixes my office machines, and it was good to go again.

Hi , The incoming tray roller was sliding due to build up of dirt clean w/rubbing alcohol all rollers rotates manually.
Check also there might something stuck on the loading tray.

Paper from Tray doesn't load.

put paper in the upper slot (known as the MP), pull all paper from lower tray, send document to print and see if it prints ok - if it does, the problem may be with the lower print drawer - there is a spring under metal pad that lifts paper so it's grabbed by the printer paper transport. the spring may have broken or become dislodged so separation pad (the metal plate holding paper up) remains down - the transport "thinks" there is no paper

Paper feeding problem with MFC-8670

Try REMOVING the white caked up paper dust from the pickup roller located at the front of the paper tray. Next, clean the pickup roller with either 409 or Fantastic all purpose holdhold cleaner using a Q-Tip or a rag.

How, where do you load 11x17 paper for brothers mfc-5890n

It goes in your main paper tray. There's a button in the front of the tray to release a catch so you can extend the tray to 17 inches. See page 9 of your manual. If you don't have the book, download it free from

The scanner can only handle originals up to 8.5 inches wide. Only the printer can handle the big stuff.

Brother MFC 5840-CN - line appearing on copies

I have no idea whats happening here.. But it sounds a bit like when he prints from the pc, it uses a different paper stock? Could it be the paper from a direct copy is being used from a different source or tray? Or maybe it's like a 'draft' copy?

I know thats not much help, but if you want, I can spend some time investigatiing this.. But as over a hundred people have never bothered to reply to my posts, I'm a bit reluctant to waste time, unless it's appreciated.. Let me know if you really want to get involved at a deeper level..

Reload printer error

Try removing the paper tray, and look under where the paper goes. You should see a rubber pick up roller. Try cleaning it with a rag and some rubbing alcohol. The roller is probably slipping and not carrying the paper in far enough! Good luck John

Paper not feeding

Is this a top feed - that is paper loaded on top at the back bottom feed from a tray underneath? Top feed take one sheet of paper and gently push it down whilst the printer is trying to grab it. Tray feed - take tray out make sure no paper fragments are in the tracks and find a nail board and gently abrade the pick up rollers.
