Question about Canon PIXMA MP830 All-In-One InkJet Printer
When i attempt to make a copy the printer will make the copy. But when it has completed this i get an error code 5010 on the LCD. When i want to make another copy i have to turn the computer off and then turn it back on. When i do this the printer will make the copy. But again after it's done, i again get the error code 5010. And this keeps recurring.
I got the error code 5010 today (scanner lock switch). I called Canon. The printer's electrical circuitry (brain) needs to be refreshed. This is similar to wireless routers and other devices. They directed me as follows: 1. power OFF the printer 2. Unplug the printer's power cord from the electrical source. 3. Wait AT LEAST 1 minute - no less than 1 minute. 4. After 1 minute, plug-in the printer to the electrical source. Turn on the printer - wait for it to warm up as usual and it should be ok. Mine worked perfectly after the above steps. - Hope this helps.

I was having the same problem but now it is solved.
The same trick worked for me, you need to move the switch that you can see after you open the scanner cover on the left side on the UNLOCK position!!!

If you are getting this it relates to the scanner. if the lock is on, release it and problem solved. if the lock is off however then you might be up for a new scanner unit, in which case, time for a new printer cause repairs would be more than a new one! i know, cause i fix these pieces of ****!

This error code can indicate that the scanner is locked--or that the machine "thinks" it's locked, because the carriage is not moving as freely as it should. (The scan lock switch is purely mechanical, so moving it back and forth will do nothing.) After unplugging it, take the machine apart enough to remove the glass platen. (If you can't figure out intuitively how to unscrew and unsnap each part to accomplish this, have a more mechanically-inclined friend do this for you.) With the platen removed, lightly lubricate the rails upon which the carriage rides, as well as the gears, using a silicone spray. Move the carriage back and forth manually several times to spread the silicone. Reassemble and you're back in business.

Same problem. User's manual doesn't list Error Code 5010. Canontechsupport.com no help. Damned annoying.

We had the same problem. The machine told us to unlock the scanner lock. Try that. It worked for us.

I can not fax, copy or do anything with the machine. Code 5010 pops up and sends a error message.
