I have a Stoves 900 CTH with the same problem. Its been like it for about 6 months and we're still able to get it going eventually.
If you turn the power on at the mains and leave it beeping for about 2 hrs then press the power on touch button. You should see all the "0."s flashing. When the flashing and beeping goes slow try pressing one of the hob buttons alot until the little dot illuminates next to the 0 then quickly lit the + button.
It sometimes works after 5 mins but other times it takes 20-30mins and is a real pain in the ****.
I did ring Stoves a while back and they quoted me £190 for the pcb but I hardly use it so just lived with it as it is but I finally had enough tonight and done a web search which turned up this thread.
I've just pulled it to bits to see if I could locate this "C17" but not 100% sure what I'm looking for.

Hi, I am about to try a mod on my 700cth stoves toch hob. Apparently C17 on the PCB needs changing to a 1000uf 16v capacitor. I will up date on my findings soon.

Changed C17 for 1000uf 16v Cap and now works perfectly. took about 30 mins from removing from counter to cooking again!!! Cost 50p and a little time. Well done Flash.

To Scoobycity, yes the silver cilinder is the cap. Carefully remove with a soldering iron and replace with a 1000uf 16V cap (it may not look the same), you can get online or a maplin store easy enough. Make sure you take note of the polarity (marked on the cap). I did this fix a year ago and it works fine to this day. Good luck. Let me know how you get on. cmbcleveland.

Hi, this worked for me as well on a 900CTH. Has to be a design fault judging by the number of people with the same problem.

No idea what this capacitor does but a guess would be that it is the reset circuit for the processor. This is normally a simple CR circuit which holds the reset pin down so the processor resets on power up. Only in this case their design does not hold the pin down long enough hence increasing the capacitor from 220 to 1000 micro-farads increases the time constant so that the pin is held down long enough. The installed value probably works well initially but due to the heat on the hob the capacitor ages, capacitance decreases in value (a common issue with electrolytics) and low temperatures at start up exhibit lower capacitances hence the fault is, as reported, worse in cold conditions. So my additional advice would be to pick a replacement with a high temperature rating.

Could be one of your control knobs is not releasing fully which puts pressure on the pressure switch ang makes it spark and click.

Hi I have a Samsung ceramic hob that when I have the oven on and cooking veg in saucepans it cuts out randomly displaying SE flashing I'm guessing its overheating but how can I fix this ? It makes

An SE error message on the display of a Samsung ceramic hob means the control panel sensor has been on for too long.
There are a few reasons why the sensor could be saying it's been on for too long:
  • Touching the key area for more than 10 seconds.
  • Leaving a wet cloth on the touch key area.
  • Spilling a liquid on the key area.
  • By touching 2 or more keys together. All of these can be fixed by turning the hob power off at the wall, then back on again.

Safety lock on Neff hob

I have a Neff T4344N0/08. I cannot stop all four hobs flashing - ie: I press the 'on' button all four flash, I then choose which one I want to use plus the number but they all keep flashing instead of stopping after the usual three or four. Please help - have I pressed something I shouldn't, perhaps a child lock?
