The dehumidifier 20L that I have does not produce any water when on. The tank is always empty and the humidity hardly changes even though a separate humidity meter shows say 68%.

It sounds like it needs servicing and recharging with refrigerant gas. It works by running the moist air over refrigerated elements where the moisture condenses and drips into the tank. Make sure you are on the right setting, most have 'blow air, remove moisture, and A/C'..
tip

Dehumidifier VS. Air conditioner

A dehumidifier is basically the same thing as an air conditioner but both coils (condenser and evaporator) are in the same unit meaning a dehumidifier exhaust warm air in the same room it is in. running a dehumidifier would make an air conditioner run more because of the warm exhaust, when you run an air conditioner it acts like a dehumidifier and dries the air. As far as saving energy it all depends on the size of the AC and dehumidifier and the size of the room. If you want warm dry air, use a dehumidifier; if you want cool dry air run the AC but not both.
How do all these parts fit together to pull moisture from the air? It's fairly simple, but very effective:
  1. A fan collects air from the surrounding area and pulls it into the dehumidifier.
  2. As the air passes through, it comes into contact with the dehumidifier's cooled coils. These coils use condensation to pull moisture from the air. The collected moisture remains on the coils and drips into the dehumidifier's reservoir.
  3. The dehumidifier reheats the air and exhausts it back into the room.
A dehumidifier usually has a removable plastic bucket for are reservoir; most buckets also have a place where you can hook up a hose so the collected water can drain straight into a floor drain or pump. This frees you from having to remember to dump out the water. But don't worry too much about the reservoir overflowing -- most dehumidifiers also have an automatic shut-off. If you're using a dehumidifier in extremely moist conditions, however, or if you need to keep your dehumidifier on all the time, you should look into a unit with a built-in condensate pump, which regularly pumps water out of the unit's reservoir rather than simply relying on gravity to empty it as a hose does.

Have had the unit on for 24 hours now & the water tank has remained empty all this time. Any ideas on this Amcor Dehumidifier dc100 ?

Hi,

There are many reasons why a dehumidifier will not work or collect water.

Here is a tip that I wrote to help people to figure out what is going wrong with their dehumidifier

Dehumidifier is running but no water is in bucket

Just bought, brand new. where to put water in? unit will not turn on.

If you bought a dehumidifier, you will not need to put water in it. A dehumidifier removes water. A humidifier add moisture to the air, and you need to add water to this. Was your dehumidifier running before and then it stopped? If so, it will have a tank on the bottom that will have water in it that needs to be emptied out. Let me know if this is your problem.

Start up instruction for dehumidifier

A dehumidifier does not need water in the tank.It takes humidity out of the air and the moisture goes into the bucket. A humidifier has to have water in the tank.Note ,a humidifier puts moisture in the air, and a dehumidifier takes the moisture takes moisture out of the air.

Dehumidifer stopped collecting moisture, blows air w/ empty tank

Possible cause it's out of gas.

you might have to get a refridgeration mechanic to regas it, or/and fix any gas leaks

Newair ADS-300 Dehumidifier

The tank may be full. Your dehumidifier has a safety device that turns off the dehumidifier when the water tank is full. Usually the tank itself either presses against a switch or there's a device connected to the tank that triggers a switch when the tank is in place and full.

If you've emptied the tank and the unit doesn't run, inspect the place where the tank rests to see if there's a switch or mechanism that's not being activated. You may be able to turn it on with a simple flick of your finger.

Most dehumidifiers have a "Frost Guard" mounted on the condensor coil. If frost accumulates on the condensor coil the frost guard turns the compressor off until the frost melts, then comes back on again. For the dehumidifier to work properly, the surrounding (ambient), temperature must be higher than 65 degress. This temperature allows the moisture in the air to condense on the coils and drip into the reservoir without freezing up on the condensor coil. Also, if the humidity is too low, (below 45%), the same condition will occur. So it will help to keep the parameters in mind when you have this issue.

Thank you for your allowing me to advise you on this issue.
