If it freezes up, I recommend you reinstall your operating system.
1) Get your product key:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/produkey.zip
Run the program and copy the product keys.

2) Get your installation disc and reinstall, then type the product key you copied down, then reinstall your previous programs

Reset to factory settings

Look to see if there is a drive partition marked recovery. If there is then you can run the restore program by pressing F12 during boot up.

Im trying to restore my dell pc back to factory settings its running vista f8 is not working i can only use f2 and f12

I would recommend using the Dell factory restore DVD. It probably didn't come with your computer (companies save money by not shipping a DVD with the computer). You can order it from Dell and it will probably cost less than $20.
Many times the restore function by hitting a special function key at startup becomes corrupt and doesn't work.
I'd opt for a new DVD to use.

It does sound there is a problem with the hard drive. However if you hit F12 at boot you will get an option to run the system diag on the computer. Let me know the error you get and I can tell you where the problem is.

I want to restore my computer back to the factory settings? How?

Whilst starting your computer press the F10 key (might be F12) All keys are listed under the dell logo just after you power on. When the recovery manager menu appears you can restore your PC from the recovery partition on your hard drive. CAUTION: this will delete all your files, so make sure that you back up your doc's etc.

Your PC might have the dell recovery disk creator application installed on it, Click START> PROGRAMS> and look for dell disk creator program. Usually this program will only let you create on set of disks so keep them safe

If you don’t have the recovery manager you can reinstall an operating system manually after first having downloaded your drivers from the dell website and placing them on a CD or DVD.

You can also purchase recovery disks for your computer from Dell thought this can be expensive.

How do you reset a forgotten password for dell dimension c521

I think it's F12 or F10 on boot up will restore it to factory, beware it does put all setting and folders back to factory settings to, so any data will be lost, it will be just as it came out of the box.

Hope this helps

If you want to clear off all of your files and reset it to how it was when you first got it (Factory settings), hit CTRL + F12 when the computer is booting up.

Dimension 4600 won't reset to factory settings

These model dells came with a recovery cd rather than a partition. You will need to call dell and have them send you a recovery cd and then use that disc to restore your computer to factory defaults.

Redoing my pc

F8. If that isn't it I would go up to F11. The important thing to remember is you may have to repeatedly tap it starting as soon as you see the Dell logo on your screen. Let me know if this helps. I may need more info on what exactly you are wanting to accomplish. I am writing this as to help you with getting to the area of your computer that deals with how it boots up. Meaning that you will need to change it from hard disk to cd rom. If this is not what you are looking for let me know [email protected] and I am sure I can be of further assistance to you.
