Question about Akai PT46DL10 46" HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Color is out of whack

I've changed the bulb and the picture is working now, but the problem is that it is really green, i've tried adjusting it and nothing seems to work. Also the lamp light did not go off after changing the bulb. Im about ready to throw this tv to the curb.

Have red tint in picture

It sounds like the color settings are out of whack, try going to the tv settings and reset them back to default. Then try changing the Red green blue values (RGB) in the color settings, simply lowering the red value might do the trick

The color on my tv is turning green. It's not totally green but it's becoming green. No matter how I adjust the colors it remains the same with too much green. You can't see the true colors...

It is very common for the color of the lamp to change as it nears the end of it's life. Depending on the bulb itself you may see yellow, green, or blue shifts (I have even seen red/orange). This is due to the diminishing output of the bulb and while you can make some adjustment you will eventually hit the point of failure. The bulb could in fact last several more weeks or even months depending on your use and environment. It is probably a good time to start searching for a replacement now so you can replace it as soon as it dies or just replace it now if the color is too bad to be worthwhile.

My picture all of the sudden went bad. You can still watch tv but the top of the picture is a little warped and the colors are all messed. The images are split into a red and green picture that overlaps...

One of the two convergence amplifier modules has gone bad. I suggest replacing both. They cost about $20 each. You may also have to replace a few resistors or a fuse. The labor is actually not all that difficult for an experienced technician. See the solution KyleM_73 provided for more details.

Note: it is possible to adjust convergence using certain commands from your remote control. DON'T TRY IT UNTIL YOU FIX THE FAILED AMPLIFIERS! You won't break anything more, but you will make a lot of extra work to finish the job because the adjustments will only go all out of whack and won't help the picture before it is repaired.

Picture is green or yellow

Maybe you should have it professionally aligned with the color values it had at the factory or on display,.
when you first saw it. Sometimes a mere temperature change, as many locales had this week will throw
such an alignment out of whack.

the messed up colors are probably from a burned out convergence chip. not too pricey to fix.

Not sure what causes it but it can be fixxed by your local repair guy, I just had mine fixxed for under a hundred bucks, he takes the back off and with a tiny screw driver adjust a few screws to near brand new perfect picture.. and it has been good ever since

there may be a green tube issue or there could be a screen voltage or screen control adjustment issue. There is a control block with six adjustment screw inside the front panel in front of tv. WARNING high voltage exsit in this set and adjusting these controls really should only be done by a tech,....So be careful
