Thank you for your response ... but removing the cartridge does not help.  It still screeches!

I also had the same problem so I opened the right panel of printer and in the process of it all I removed the two gears that has a spring attached somewhere and now I can't get it back together correctly. As the printer goes through the process of picking up the paper the gears can make it through a full rotation and then the solenoid gets stuck and the gears do not rotate.

I have an identical situation. I have isolated the source of the loud screech to the (laser scanner assembly) p/n RGO-1041. The unit is located underneath the top cover, where the printed paper rests after it is ejected. I had to remove the right and left side covers, then remove the three screws holding down the top cover. There are two screws up front and one to the rear, it then lifts straight up. The laser scanner has a ribbon cable, and four purple wires going to it, oh yeah there is a big yellow warning label, so you can't miss it. I hope this helps.

Just one more note ... the problem started when my wife hooked up the printer usb cord to the wrong port on the back of the computer.  There is a total of four usb ports and one of them is labeled "printer".  She mistakenly plugged the cord into the wrong port.  We were wondering if this would cause damage to the circuitry?
Thank you again for your previous response.

HP laserjet 1200 series printer makes a groaning whining noise when it starts up to print; noise continues until it stops.

Sorry, it's old, cranky, and worn out. Live with it, or buy a new one, it's not cost effective to fix it.

Hp laserjet 1200 series printer with high pitch nose when in printing process. During this loud noise, the roller turns but the paper is not picked up therefore printing does not occur.

noise is caused by the toner cartridge and paper is not going trough because there is a plastic milar clse to the feed roller that is bent, find it and push it towards the inside of printer (is a black or dark brown plastic mylar)

My HP Laserjet 1200 is screeching constantly

Probably the laser-mirror motor. It will screech until the load gives a error and the printer shows error/ is dead.
However, the motor can be lubed. Remove sides, remove screws found, remove top cover. Remove and open the black box containing laser. Remove motor board and lube the motor, dont get the mirror dirty. Asseble. Total time 15min...

Remove the DIMM and reseat it.

If the printer still has an error, replace the DIMM.

Unplug the power, reseat the paper tray, and reattach the power cable.
