Jack up pass side.Put cardboard, BIG piece under engine just in case. Using a pan to drain the oil in put under oil pan drain plug. Remove drain plug with socket wrench. Let drain 5 min. Check the gasket on the drain plug, if bad replace with new gasket .99 cents to replace gasket only on plug. Put plug back in DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN the plug. Slide drain pan with drained oil to the front to remove oil filter. Using a filter wrench remove oil filter. Let drain. When installing new filter put a little new engine oil on the rubber gasket on the filter with your finger. Screw filter back on tighten with filter wrench. I have 1996 Dodge Caravan. I went and got oil changed and now its ticking. I was told is a front lifter. Trying to charge outragious price to fix. Whats parts are needed???? and what has to be done to fix?

did u use the same thickness of oil at change-look at paperwork-a thinner oil ona older car creates noise--use the original or thicker and if still noise then get valves ajusted-its an easy job for honest people

Need to know where and how to locate and change oil sending unit on 2000 dodge grand caravan 3.3l flex fuel

The Oil Sending/Pressure Unit is located directly to the Left of the Oil Filter. It should have only one wire going to it.

After driving for awhile oil light comes on when i stop, goes back off when i give it gas

The engine bearings and oil pump are getting worn. Try 'high-mileage' oil next oil change (be sure to change the filter too). If you have been running 10-30 oil, go to 10-40 which has more viscosity and maintains oil pressure better. The sure fix is a fresh engine, but not cheap. We had a '96 Caravan that had over 300,000 miles and still running well on the original engine when we bought a later model Caravan.

The lifter isn't too expensive but the labor to change it will be pretty high. Is it just one? Have you tried different oil or anything yet?

I want to know what the basic maintance on a 2000 dodge caravan

It depends on the mileage. You should change hoses, belt(s) and coolant at least every 3 years. Change trans fluid and clean filter every 30,000 miles. Change oil every 3,000 miles. Check the air filter regularly. EGR valve is a 60,000 mile replacement I believe.

If you don't have an owner's manual and like to DIY, get a Chilton or Haynes repair guide. Check the brakes at every rotation - I use 5,000 miles as my guide.

Dodge Caravan 2000, 3 l engine, 109000 km/ mechanical valve lifters that are out of adjustment

The next time you do an oil change, put a liter of tranny fluid in with the oil BEFORE you change it. Let it run for an hour or two.The tranny fluid will clean out the gunk that causes your lifters to stick. Now do your oil change. Do this each time you change your oil, only use a 1/2 liter each time. You will be amazed at the difference, I was.
