Question about Magellan Roadmate 760 GPS Receiver
Wish I saw this web site before..after the software install and entry of my authorization code I got 'waiting' superimpsed over the progress screen and 'loading' on the GPS screen. After a long while an error box on the pc stated communication with the GPS was gone and to unplug the USB reset the GPS and re plug the USB. hello?, how do you reset the GPS when it continues to have 'loading' on the screen even after unplugging and re plugging into power. Tech support did not speak english very well suggested I go into my computers config sys and start checking and unchecking lines...can you believe this! Now I think my 760 is like all of yours..finished..anf the software upgrade cost $100 with shipping for nothing. Now it is Friday PM and they are closed till Monday when the fun begins...I have a day job so not sure how I am going to fit in hours of tech support nonsense.
In early Feb/08 I went through the same frustrations as all the other RM 760 owners when attempting to download the map up-grade. After endless attempts to talk to someone who could give me a solultion(and not get bounced around the world) I gave up until I returned home in April and re-started the whole process once again. I was requested to send my defective unit for servicing with their promise that they would inform me of the results and solutions.
I rec'd nothing. Today, I finally contacted their service department...went through all the ID process again. I was told that my 760 is un-repairable and that it would be replaced by the Maestro4250 at no cost. I should receive the replacement unit within the next 4-7 days. Lets hope this is the end of this journey and beware of up-grade offers!!!!!!

I too persisted with the folks in India, and I was told that their servers were down 4 times that I called and they could not give me an RMA #. I tried the email route several times and finally I was fed up and filed a complaint with the BBB. I received an email from Magellan asking me to contact the Support group again, I refused! Then I received an email with a UPS label to send the unit in for repair. I sent the unit in, and 10 days later, I received a box from Magellan with a replacement unit and a note stating that my RM760 had failed...duh...., anyhow I was sent a replacement, but the "new" one is a RM700. I figured that because the unit is functionally equivalent to the RM760 with updates, I am not going to push the issue. I am so glad that this nightmare is over....as long as nothing happens to the replacement unit...... :-|

Well it is April and tought I should update...of you persist with Magellan support in India for about 3 hours or so ypu will gey a return number and address...if after several weeks after you send the 760 to the return address and nothing happens call again with a tracking # for your shipment etc and persist and they will agree to send a new 4210..which since it has arrived is a good GPS except it does give street names a s you approch.. other than that I like it better than the 760..good luck

I'm in the process of filing a class action lawsuit with Magellan. I've had the similiar issue and so have many others I've spoken with. If you would like to be part of this please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org subject class action 760
