Installing a 2 port ATA-133 IDE adapter card to a desktop w/a hard drive & DVD

I am trying to install a 2 port ATA-133 IDE adapter card to a desktop computer that already has an existing bootdrive & DVD. Unfortunately, this computer only has 1 PCI slots on the mother board so if I want to add 2 more devices I have to use an IDE card. I have tried several ways.
1) both hard drives from master - boot (master) 2nd (slave)
2 dvd drives off of IDE adaptet (one master, one slave)
2) Keep existing set up off mother board - hard drive (master), DVD (slave)
try to set up another harddrive and DVD (master, slave) of ide adapter
I have change my jumpers to slave, cable select, master...etc
I can't seem to get them all four to work. It appears it is reading my IDE card - scanning.....but will not boot. Only when I have two - whether harddrive/dvd or 2 harddrives, etc.

Is there something I am doing wrong? Could this 133 IDE adapter not be compatible with my "new" computer? I am using the "primary" slot on it and only one cable.

desparate for help!

I don't think you can boot off of the ATA-133 so you will have to boot off of the IDE on the mobo and have the DVD drive jumpered cable select on the 2nd IDE. Boot that way to make sure the system boots. Shut down. Then instll the ATA-133 adapter with NO DRIVES on it and boot. The system should ask you for drivers for the new hardware. Intall the drivers. Shut down. Attach the new drives to the ATA-133. Reboot. You still might have to go into admin in windows and assign drive letters to the new drives. Anyway, if you are trying to boot off of a drive on the ATA-133 adapter, I don't think you can do it. I have mostly used Asus boards with Award Bios and there was no way to point the boot process to an add-on ATA Controller.

If I am not completely mistaken you have to reinstall the OS on the SATA drive on IDE. That is because the first installation was configured for connection on a SATA /PCI then now on the SATA/IDE port converter.

Go through the prompts, then have your computers compatability wizard check first. Then look for the drivers properties. Then see if,after it installs the computer still doesn't read the disc then write or call microsoft.Or ask them online about this.

You can plug it in and see if Vista can use any of its drivers for it. In many cases it has drivers for the chipset on the card which will work perfectly well with the device.

Sounds like the system is trying to boot from the drives attached to the controller. Go into your setup and make sure the system is set to boot from the proper drive.

Installing new seagate pata/100 hard drive and belkin ata/133 controller

There should be a tab on the back of the actual hard drive where you can switch it to CS "cable select", You just take the tab out of the slot that it is in and switch it to where the cable select is. I am sure that the drive is set to something different or it would be working.
