Re: dns error 80710102

Hey peterk18,

First of all, how is your network configured? Are you behind a router? What's it's IP adress, does it act as a DHCP server?

If so try to set up a new network connection and put everything to automatic.. When the routers acts as a DHCP server it will give the PlayStation 3 an IP adress. DNS however is something else. DNS is a system that allows you to browse by a website or hosts name. For example: it allows you to type in your browser instead of it's IP.

DNS is essential for Internet. Your router should be your DNS server and your router itself also needs to know a DNS server, this would be the server from your ISP. All these settings are automatically configured via DHCP.

I can not log in to my ps3 even though it says that my connection is 100% strong. The error code that it gives me is 80710102

Error code 80710102 implies your router is having issues (specifically, there's an IP conflict).

The simplest fix would be to just restart your router.

If that doesn't do the job, you could use a DNS alternative to the one you're currently using (IP addresses are assigned by DNS, thus why we would change the DNS provider) such as OpenDNS. To do that you would manually set up your internet connection. A detailed guide on how to do that can be found here.

Basically what you would do is navigate to XMB > Settings > Network Settings > Internet Connection Settings. Then you would select custom. For all of the options you would select "Automatic" or "Auto-detect", except the DNS setting. For that you would manually enter the OpenDNS alternative, which are these:

Hope that helps!

My ps3 has a nds error 80710102 then is a ip addres time out can u av tried wifi and direkt help thanks

The main issue is your DNS not working. The fix is simple. When configuring your PS3 network (regardless of wired or wireless), use the manual option. If you use DHCP, leave address resolution at automatic BUT CHANGE THE DNS SERVER ENTRY TO MANUAL.

Replace your DNS server to the ones below which are from opendns.
The DNS addresses are: or/and

Once replaced, you should have no problem logging in. You are having an IP address timeout because you don't have a working DNS to resolve ip addresses.

Hope this helps,

Cant get internet connection on my ps

first check wether you received a valid ip address for your local network. usually, this should be something like 192.168.x.y. if so, then you might indeed face a dns issue. dns is used to resolve web site names to ip address. usually, your ip service provider will broadcast the external dns servers for your router to recognize.

try to connect with a computer first. if it works, check the ip settings. if your computer also cannot connect without explicit dns server settings you can do one of the following:
- explicit dns server address in ps3. go to "advanced internet connection settings", and then to "dns settings" and set the dns server address
- purchase a 30$ network router and hook it between your internet and the ps3. in the router settings, set the dns server address to be broadcasted to the clients. you can use and 2 which are dns servers in korea (i live in korea), but you might want to find the server near to your location or promoted by your isp
