Question about Vicks V150SG 1 Gallon Humidifier

My V150SG humidifier smells bad

I just bought a Vicks V150SG humidifier. I added the recommended amount of VapoSteam medication (1 T per pint) and a few pinches of salt. It has a burnt plastic odor. Any ideas about what could be wrong?

    tried 2, both smelled like sewage

    tried 2, also! Stinks Really Bad! Even called Katz Co. and they told me it should not smell like burning plastic... both units I bought smelled the same. I even ran them in an unused room for several hours to see if smell disappeared, and it did not. My original V150's never smelled bad. I'm going to go search high and low for an older model on store shelves... UGH!!! My child is sick, and my old V150 sprang a leak... I don't need this hassle!!!

I just bought one as well. It has a terrible odor! I wanted to let it run for a while, but now I think I won't waste my time. Thanks for the posts.

I would like to know the power comsumtion

P = Power = Watts = ?
I = Current = Amps = 5.5 - 6.0
E = Voltage = ------- = 120

P = I * E

P = 720

sing a FLUKE 31 Clamp meter. after 30 minutes of use it averaged at about 5.5 - 6.0 amps.
Which relates to 720 watts.

Why is it that the steam doesn't seem to be working very well.It is a Vicks Humidifier.

use vinegar in water when steam drops then clean out water container. and use a small pinch of salt to let the two prongs in the plastic tube make better contact with each other it will steam very well.

I added water and the vicks medicine and no steam

medication was never meant to go into a humidifier. it clogs the transducer. if you can clean the vicks off the transducer plate you might squeeze another season out of it, otherwise by adding medication to the machine you just gave it an early death.
