Re: Windows

You probably dont have Win XP in twice. You may have a reference to 2 WIN XPs when you start your computer. Your boot.ini can be edited to show just 1 WIN XP.

Here is how to edit it...Be careful how you change it, because if it is done wrong you will have to re-install your whole OS.

Hi meetabdullah,

Have a nice day.

If you're running Windows XP and your computer software crashes or becomes unusable, you may have to run Windows XP recovery to reestablish your software and make your computer usable once again. When purchased, many computers don't come with a Windows XP recovery disk, but you can download one for free. The Windows XP recovery disk holds almost all of the computer software and files that came loaded with your PC and can assist you in rebuilding your hard drive.

Here are some instructions that somehow could help you:

1.Place a formatted disk in your disk drive. Click on the "Download a Windows XP recovery disk from Microsoft" link in Resources below. Click "Download." Then click "Save." Find your disk drive on the menu and click "OK."

2. Remove the disk when the Windows XP recovery disk download is complete, and place it in the computer on which you need to use it.

3.Shut down your computer; then turn your computer back on. Your computer will automatically start up running on the Windows XP recovery disk, which will allow you to install Windows XP once again.

Hope this will help you.

Thank you for using fixya.

The notepad boot.ini file looks like this one

Your default operating system is:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

as shown in:

You'll see the second line containing

multi(1)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional"

or other operating system like Windows Vista

You have to delete this second line from multi..... to the end of the line that contain a second boot of your windows

Then click File Menu > Save
Close the notepad file (boot.ini)

Also refer to this information for some explanations to understand more about boot.ini file

How do I get rid of this screen when I start up my Windows XP?

Ctrl+ F11 Pc restore option is not available on Dimension 3000 it was launched from Dimension 8400 model so you are not doing the right thing already. coming to the two os option there have been two entries createdin the boot.ini which is why you see two options please check which one works 1st or the second if you wanna get rid of this please do the following: Step 1: open my computer properties window start>my computer (right click) 7b978cb.gif
step 2: click advanced>settings under startup and recovery and uncheck the option time to display the list after selecting the appropriate os entry from the drop down.
Now if you could also clarify why you want to restore I cud give you the correct option to do so

Lost my monitor driver or Video driver somehow. I know it's working because I still get the windows logo when i turn it on. I can also start it in Bios mode. But Windows XP does not come on.

when you start your computer right after the bios gets done testing the memory hit shift f5 or shift f8 to enter safe mode. From there you can reset your video setting in xp from the display control panel in control panel. I recommend setting it to a low resolution based upon this problem sounds like the monitor is not configured for the resolution it is currently trying to use.
