I have a Harmon Kardon TD-3 that I'm looking to sell. It's not in its original cabinet, but in a smaller box that takes up less space.

That is; supply wheel turns, and take-up wheel doesn't. Isn't it? The tape deck mechanism fault. Should be a broken belt [loading belt] can cause this. Check for it.

I have a Yamaha KXW302U audio tape player. And when I play a tape on the A deck, after one second, it stops.

The auto stop function is activating due to lack of reel rotation on the TU reel and so you may need a reel drive Idler tire or a new belt.

The issue is, that I purchased a set of 2 belts via eBay for my deck. I fixed the problem with the belt to move the cassette. But there is a second set in the pack and I cannot install this. Perhaps it is...

The belts you have replaced are used to operate the loading/unloading mechanism I assume. On the bottom of the cassette mechanism you will find the other from motor to idler wheel assy. or actual reel hub. Older cassette decks also used a belt to drive the tape counter mechanism.

Older cassette decks used belts from the motor to the capstan, another from the motor to an idler assy. or tape reels (FF & RR) and another belt driving the mechanical tape counter.

HI, I purchased new belts for my tapedeck (2 actually: a flat and a square one) but I don't know how to install them. The square belt is visible but I cannot find the flat one. Can you help me?

The flat belts are usually the one from the motor to the flywheel or "capstan." Most people don't realize this, but the capstan and pressure (pinch) roller is what actually drives the tape in the play mode. The reels are used to maintain tape pressure and perform rewind / fast-forward.

Cassette player plays tapes for awhile then will go garble like and auto reverse back and forth once then shut off. I noticed it seems the tape is getting kinked up or stuck on the rollers. looked for...

The reel drive of your set is not taking up the tape and resulting in no detection of reel pulse. this makes it switch over and the result happens again. Please clean up your drives, the rollers, change the belt and check the reel drive arrangement, the motors. I am sure the mechanism must be reset with new belts . This must solve your issue. Good day

Tape gets stuck

Hi there,

It sounds as though the tape player mechanism isn't working correctly. Either the machine's tape heads are't engaging fully, but usually this is a result of the drive belts becoming worn and not turning one of the tape reel's at the same speed as the other. Culminating in a difference so one reel will run faster than the other, this can cause bunching of the tape as it goes through the tape heads jamming it up. The VCR will need to be inspected by a technician for repair or replacement of the drive belts.

Hope this helps,
