Re: Brother MFC 665CW can no longer scan since networked
That's rather normal, if your printer doesn't have scan-to-email functionality, you won't be able to scan unless you connect it via USB to a selected machine.

This is the procedure to connect the printer with your computer.
Yes this is possible. Depending on the type of installation that has been done on the computer, you can even scan documents to your computer as a network scanner.
You can check and see if all the features have been installed on your computer. Click on start, all programs, and look for the folder called brother. If you can find brother you can look for the sub category for Conrtrol Center. From Control Center you can scan by clicking on one of the icons. Like file or image.
If none of this is installed, get your installation disk and install the software, you can do a network installation or a Local (USB) installation.
If you decide to do a Local installtion remember to only plug in the USB cable when promted to.
If you decide to do a network installation, the machine should already be installed on the network, which I assume it is since its being used as a network Printer.

When you purchase a new router you must change your security settings to accept that program so it can be ran to work with your os please check your firewall settings to see if they are blocking any new router installs you can do this by selecting start-programs then go to security settings and check your network connections and settings for your security settings.
I've tried everything including several driver utilities on Brother's own website. I even tried copying all the driver files identified in the device manager on an xp computer that will print to it. My last resort is to download the entire 80mb full software & drivers from Brother. I assume that's how I got it running on the other laptop years ago (but from the original disk that I can't find now). If you don't know where this is, google "mfc-665cw xp drivers" & you'll see a couple links to the Brother website. Click any of them, select "downloads" at the top, then at the left, under "notes," find "click here to see all downloads for this model. Scroll down through OS's until you get to XP & you'll see what I'm talking about. Good luck.
