Re: how do I get to the belt

These are not the "same" problem.

1. The squeak typically will be from dryer fuzz getting into the mechanism. If you MUST spray WD40 then watchout where you spray it. If you get it on the belt then the belt will degrade and break in a very short period of time. If you spray WD40 on electronics they will probably short the electronics. It may also be a worn out pulley or motor bearing.

2. You must remove the pulley bolt on many dryers, place the belt on the pulley and then thread the bolt back on the arm or nut.

3. Most of the Maytag washers you must remove the doors first and then there are clips that hold the frame together. They are "pop off" with a scredriver and a bump with a gloved hand.

4. see 3. to get the cabinet off. If it sounds like a bearing then it probably is and you will have to replace the pulley and integrated bearing. It may also be a worn-out motor bearing (replace the motor).

Very squeeky dryer, starts out quiet then intensifies through the cycle untill it can be heard from outside; has a rhythmic squeek.

The belt is probably rubbed smooth. Since you already sprayed it, after the spray dried out, it starting squeaking again. I suggest examining the belt and replacing it if necessary.

Loud squeeking noise when dryer starts and continues while it is drying

the belt pulley needs some lubricating..they squeek and the rollers thump...of coarse, its possible a stuck roller can squeek...The front needs to be removed..UNPLUG machine and if you have a removable lower access panel..this can be removed and lube the belt pulley.

if no bottom front., remove filter screws and raise top. there are two screws inside of front.Remove the front and you can lube or change parts as needed...

My dryer was squeaking really bad, so I sprayed WD 40 on the pulley & belt, squeaking stopped but the dryer also stopped turning. The pulley still turns but the dryer drum doesn't

The belt is slipping now. Need to clean the WD40 off, use methylated spirits, isopropyl or rubbing alcohol on a cloth.

The dryer squeals on start up and quiets after 40 seconds or so. I took it apart and the belt and pulley seem ok. How do I know if they are worn? I thought it was a problem with the felt liner at either...

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

you have a drum bearing, going bad, or your belt tension pully. it stops squealing because the unit heats up and the metal expands. you can also try spraying (WD40) the belt tension pulley..

My roper dryer is squeaking. how do i stop this

you would have to see if the motor or something else is squeeking. remove front panel, take belt off motor, use a no heat cycle, and turn on machine. any squeeking? yes? then you need a then you need a repair/maintnance kit for you dryer. it comes with new rollers, belt and tension pulley and this should get rid of all potentall squeeky parts. if you give me a model number then maybe i can get you the part number you need.

Dryer squeeking while tumbling & leaves black smudge on clothes

it sounds like a drum support roller is going bad or the belt idler pulley. i think maytag has a kick panel on the bottom that can be removed. look inside with a flashlight and you may be able to see something. if not, you may have to take the drum out to get a really good look. make a note and study how the drive belt serpentines around the motor, pulley, and drum so you can get it back together.

Maytag dryer squeeks when I first turn it on. Started about a couple of weeks ago. Squeek would go away after a few minutes, however now it is continuous.

Hi, The most popular squeeling issue in the Maytag dryer is caused from the idler pulley. The idler pulley keeps tension on the belt. The next possible problem could be the 2 rear drum rollers. These rollers are fastened to the rear bulk head and they support the drum. The third possibility is the motor bearing. Usually, when the motor starts to squeel, the motor will shut off suring the cycle and will not restart until the motor cools down.
I would advise you to change the idler pulley as well as the rear support rollers. The cost for these parts are very costly and a little preventive maintainance goes a long way.
Please let me know if this helps you or if I can assist you further.

Once started, dryer squeeks loudly, applied wd40 to wheels and it stopped, now smells funny when heat element is on

wd40 as a lot of prropellant and thinner in it, and heat will bring those vapors out... in a few days the smell will subside, but I would recommend using something a little bit thicker... like regular motor oil. 1-2 /drops/ per wheel is plenty. Also, if you inspect the wheels closely and find that the hubs are wearing out and no longer circular, you might consider just replacing them, since oil will be a very temporary solution.

Real bad squeaking noise in dryer

There should be a access panel in the back of the dryer to get at the belt and pully. You can check the belt operation from there. If that all seems good you will need to remove the front of the dryer and check the drum supports in the front and the rear support rollors. If you hear the noise more from the front I would say the front supports are the ones thst should be replaced. And yes you can purchase a repair manual for that dryer at a parts store. Good Luck
