the back light inverters will need to be replaced.they produce the high voltage to fire up the flourescent tubes.

Low brightness

replace back light - it is a flourescent bulb which gets darker as it gets used ( like all flourescent bulbs do - they start getting black on ends and get dimmer as they are being used)

Sound only, no picture.

Most likely, the CCFL (cold cathode flourescent lamp) bulbs are bad or they are not getting power.

Your picture is probably there, but because the backlighting is out, you cannot see it.

If you still have a warranty, exchange the set. Otherwise, you can go to any good TV repair shop and they can fix it for you. Make sure you get an estimate first.

We have sound and you can see the sound bar on screen but no picture

Open the back of the TV. Then turn it on. You should be able to see white light indicating the flourescent lamps are on. Don't touch anything tho because there are high voltages there. If the flourescent light dont come on then it is the board that powers it. If the white lights are on at the back then it is the main picture board. I may add though that the power supply that powers the flourescent lamp has higher failure rate.

PT-53TW53 53 in. Rear Projection has sound but no picture

It is. And I hope you some cash set aside for this extremely costly repair.
I once had a rear projection TV and was told by the repairman that each of the 3 flourescent lamps run about $200.00 to replace.
Needless to say I did not get it fixed

I have a 32" TV/DVD combo westinghouse LCD TV. When I turn the TV on I get no picture. There is sound. DVD player does not show picture either, I have sound but no picture.

This is a backlight or inverter Problem. Based on the model you have, I am guessing the inverter is defective.

Inverter is defined as the board in the TV that supplies power for the flourescent lights inside the LCD TV that provide backlighting for the TV's Display

Screen flashes several times before picture comes on. Sound OK.

sounds like your bulb may be flickering at start similar to a flourescent, do a search on google for bulb+your model, and you should see plenty of sites to compare prices.
Hope this helps, please give a good rating
