I'm having socket problems after tech upgrade

I took my notebook in and had, what was supposed to be, a upgrade to the memory (which I don't think happened- only a microsoft upgrade), a new CD/DVD player installed. I've a SMCW 802.11g Wi-Fi program on here that was working fine until the tech got a hold of it. I took it back to him telling him my CD ROM didn't work nor did my SMC wi-fi program. Still now everything keeps telling me : SMC- I'm told "windows sockets???"... CD/DVD player- I'm told "windows sockets failed initialing". Got any clue what to do?

CPU upgrade is a big NO.
The core I5 is a different socket, and modern laptops use mobile CPU's.
Memory upgrade is ok, you can fit 4GB "Up to 4GB of 667-MHz DDR2 SDRAM, dual channel memory support "

Need to upgrade memory have bought memory cards and want to install them how do i do it

To upgrade your memory besure that you will know what is the socket of your memory slot. Before you buy a memory look at your memory socket first so that the memory you buy is totally fix to the socket. Open you unit and look for the memory stick inside. If you dont have a little experience on how to upgrade it's better that you will go to the computer shop to ugrade your unit. So that the upgrading is successful, if you can do it with your own it is ok because it is not expensive.

Can't figure this one out

the modem/lan minipci module is faulty. from there you have that error messages and also from here you can't access your lan and again (guess) you don't have sound. very strange but true.
what you have to do is to remove the lan/modem minipci card (baterry to the right) and everything you be OK.
and if I remember correct the spare part number is: F2300-60914.
if that doesnt work try this:
entered the bios setup utility and changed the settings for the parallel port to simple port ( no ECP no Bi-directional)
this way it saves resources for the mini pci card that reports the conflict

Black screen say unsupported memory , remove the unsupported memory from socket 1

I think you might have a faulty memory module. The socket where you push the PC card is not the Socket 1. I think the notebook is complaining about the Memory socket witch you can access if you remove the memory cover(click for details) on the bottom of the notebook. Try reseating the memory module, remove it from the socket and install back. Make sure the memory contacts are clean and not oxidized; clean them with an eraser if they oxidized. Try moving memory from one socket to another. If you have two memory modules installed, remove them one by one and test the notebook with only one module installed. Find out which module is bad.

Acer Aspire 3000 Notebook - major memory problem!!

it sounds like the memory, try removing the new memory from the notebook and see if there are any errors, if not then that stick is ok, try just your new memory in the notebook and leave out your old memory, if the same problems you know its the new memory, if there are no problems, then the two sticks wont work together.
