When you attach the phone lines, the line coming from the wall must be put in the "L" (line) jack on the machine. The extension phone can be plugged into the other jack. If you have the line coming from the wall to your phone first, and then the extension line coming to the machine, you will get the beeping. You must have two lines plugged into the machine.

I have a canon mx410 all in one inkjet printer.i need assistance with setting up the fax to a phone line. Thank you Zainy

  • Call your phone company to sign up for service. Ask for an additional line with a "distinctive ring." The additional line is for your fax machine---whenever you hear the distinctive ring you'll know that a fax is coming through. Get voice mail service on the regular phone line as well.

Purchase a two-jack phone splitter (sometimes called a wall jack adapter) that allows two cords to plug into the same phone line. Plug it into the phone jack in your wall.

  • Run a phone cord from both machines into the wall adapter. Test the system by calling both your regular phone number (assure it rings and the voice mail picks up) and your fax number to see if the fax machine picks up (you'll hear a set of strange beeping tones).

I have a brother 680 Fax macine I get a dial tone...I dial, it rings when I press start button- it won't fax - It says "Transission Error"-what I am doing...

Is the phone line plugged into the LINE jack? If it was accidentally plugged into the EXT jack (for extension phone), it will allow you to hear the dial tone and dial, but as soon as you press Start, it cuts off the extension phone, which, in this case, would be the phone line. Your call goes dead, and you get an error.

I hope it's that simple. If the line is already in the LINE jack and you have this problem, it's serious. Probably needs a new main board.

But you can try wiping out all the memory, just in case it's a temporary glitch causing the problem. Here's how:

Get into Maintenance Mode by pressing
    Black Start

The display should read MAINTENANCE, and all the lights should be blinking in unison. If not, touch Stop and try it again. It will beep at you as if you're making a mistake; ignore the beeps and plow through without waiting to see what the display says.

Once in Maintenance Mode, press the numbers 91 on the dialing pad. Sit back for a few seconds while the machine initializes everything in its memory, except the phone numbers stored in it. When the display is back to MAINTENANCE, press 99 to exit Maintenance Mode. The machine will go through it's startup procedure, as if you just plugged it in.

Try sending a fax. If nothing has changed, try the memory clear procedure again, except instead of touching 91, try 01. That clears everything back to the state it was in when you first pulled it out of the box. You'll have to re-enter the date & time and your phone numbers.

Fax problem. Trying to send international fax to France. I can hear the fax number being dialed ok, but no connection after 12 rings. Calling fax number from phone hooked up through mp530 connects ok! ...

    Hi ...

It might be possible that the line is loose or the long distance calling code is incorrect. Follow the below instructions which might resolve the problem.

Sending Using a Long Distance Calling Code The telephone company or PBX system may use long distance calling codes on a phone line as a means to manage long distance calls. This service may extend to a fax phone line and for local phone calls as well. To use a calling code for faxing, enter a pause (or pauses, as necessary) in the dialing sequence to allow time for the phone system to distinguish between the phone number and the calling code. For example, if the calling code has to be entered after the phone number, press <Redial/Pause> after the long distance number and then enter the calling code.
Here is an example of a couple of variations that may be used by the phone company / PBX system. (For details on time sequence between the long distance number and when you must enter the calling code, please contact your phone company or telecommunications specialist.)
    Long distance number: 212.555.1212
    Calling code: 123456
Scenario One: 12125551212p123456 Scenario Two: 123456p12125551212

Note: The above scenarios include a pause (p) in between the dialing sequence. This pause may be necessary to allow the phone system to detect each set of dialing sequences. The pause length can be adjusted from one to nine seconds, the default is two seconds.

Tips to help you send a fax using a calling code.
    1. To send a fax using a calling code, it may be necessary to add a pause(s) before the next string of dialing digits. The above example shows how a calling code is used to dial a long distance fax number. To provide time before the calling code number is dialed and avoid misdialing, a pause should be added.

      Example: 12125551212p123456

The number of pauses will depend on the phone / PBX system.

It is suggested to confirm if the time before the next set of digits is dialed will always be constant. This way you can always use the same number of pauses for that dialing sequence. If needed, you can also change the pause [Pause time] length from its default 2 seconds.

    2. Connect a telephone to the fax machine.
      1. Connect a line cord from the telephone wall jack to the [L] jack (or item <1>) on the fax machine.

      2. Connect a line cord from the extension telephone port on the fax machine (top jack (or item <2>)) to an external telephone.

    3. To send a fax using a calling code, it is recommended to dial using the attached telephone.
      1. Press the <FAX> button on the operator panel.
      2. Insert the documents face-up on the ADF.

      3. Pick up the handset of the attached telephone and confirm you hear a dial tone.
      4. Dial the fax destination number on the attached telephone.
      5. When you are prompted to enter your calling code, dial it on the attached phone.
      6. When you hear the remote fax machine's high-pitched receive tones, press <Color> to send a color fax or <Black> to send a black and white fax. The audio signal heard from the handset will be cut off.
      7. Hang up the handset.
      8. When the transaction is complete, the fax machine will return to standby mode.
Don't forget to vote if this helps ... Cheers :)

Canon L120 fax, Hang up the Phone message

Make sure that the phone line coming from the wall jack is inserted in the port with the "L" next to it (I think it's the bottom of the three). If you put it in the port with the picture of the phone next to it (which is for an extension phone or answering machine), the L120 thinks that the receiver is off the hook of the extension phone.

    I don't hear a dial tone

I think you may have the phone line plugged into the wrong jack on the machine. The line coming from the wall should be plugged into the port that has an "L" next to it. The other port, with an icon of a telephone next to it, is for an extension phone or answering machine.
