Question about Apple iPod MA446LL/A MP3 Player
I connect my iPod to my computer and neither iTunes nor my computer recognizes my iPod. My iPod will start to charge but the battery meter varies greatly. Both my computer and iTunes recognize my wife's 30gb video and her sister’s 2gb nano when connected. Can you please help me?
Hold down the middle button and the Menu button until the apple icon came up on my iPod. At once, the iPod icon returned to my desktop AND on my iTunes window. Works great now. Just like nothing happened.Good Luck!!!!!!!

I just went through the hell of trying to figure out why my nano wasn't recognized by my computer. I did everything suggested...the 5 R's, making sure the usb port works, re-installing itunes and so on. I happened to figure out on my own that you MUST have the Apple usb cable that came with the ipod (or purchase a new one from Apple). I had purchased a replacement cable from Wal-Mart that will allow me to charge my nano, but is not recognized by itunes. I hope this saves someone from the agonizing frustration I went through.

Hi I have just done a friends ipod mini 4gb where the charge icon was showing all the time and when connect to a pc ituns would not see it.
What i did was plug it into your pc press and hold both the select and menu buttons together for 6 seconds until you see the apple icon on your screen on the ipod.
Running itunes 8 if you go to sych you will find this under file in itunes once the apple icon clears your itunes will ask you then if you wish to update your firmware on your ipod if it is out of date select yes.
follow the on screen messgaes you will may want to clear your music and up load new music it will guide you through it but do not unplug it until it has finished.
when it has finished it will tell you when you can unplug it
hope this helpful

I figured it out!! I just had the problem where my iPod icon would come up on my desktop, but iTunes wouldn't recognize it all of a sudden. I plugged into a different port, no luck. I then plugged the iPod into my laptop... same thing. Icon came up on my desktop, but iTunes wouldn't recognize it. It kept telling me to "Restore" my iPod to factory settings. Screw that! I wasn't going to do that, as I haven't got everything backed up. So I just tried this and it worked. I plugged the iPod in again. When I got the message that iTunes wouldn't recognize my iPod, I held down the middled button and the pause/play button at the same time until the iPod went black. A window came up telling me there was a devise removal, etc. I closed that window (leaving the iPod plugged in) and the iPod icon was gone from the desktop. I then held down the middle button and the Menu button until the apple icon came up on my iPod. At once, the iPod icon returned to my desktop AND on my iTunes window. Works great now. Just like nothing happened. Hope this helps.

Did you register your ipod? If not do. Also look in preferences and see if you can change itunes to auto detect. Maybe try a diferent usb port too.

Use winamp software for free download and download apple ipod plugin. It syncs everthing fine when Itunes wouldn't work, apple store told hard drive was bad. Now using winamp everything works and syncs. Download the free program and throw away itunes.

Same thing happened here, but I switched it to another USB port and it's going fine (well about as fine as an Ipod goes on a USB 1.0 port...)

How do i set up and get itune onto ipod apple touch got it for my girls chrismass computer shows its there but wont sync

Hey guys, well i recently found out that once I delete all content and settings from iPod touch, Itunes finally synchronises. Although i find this technique time consuming and just downright bloody awful, it works. but be sure to back up all your pictures which you've gotten off the net to your Ipod in a suitable folder on your laptop or Pc :)
hope it works guys.

does other computers recognise your ipod - menial remedy but try resetting it hold down menu and play buttons till u see apple icon then connect........basic but maybe

Try this: turn off your ipod, hold the home button, and plug it into itunes while still holding the home button until a picture of the itunes symbol appears with a cable under it. itunes should say "ipod found in restore mode". This will completely reset your ipod, hopefully fixing any bugs or problems in it. also, you will lose all data saved on the ipod that isn't also backed up by itunes. Music, pictures, and video can be re-synced.

put your ipod in disk mode by following these steps.
press and hold the Menu and Center buttons on the clickwheel. when you see the apple appear, switch your fingers to the center and play/pause buttons.
whena check mark appears plug it into you computer and it should detect and mount.
add music and have fun.
