Maytag legacy series washer leaking

Washer is 4 1/2 years old--leaking onto the transmission from above--I aaume it is the seals. Parts store said about $66 for triple leaf seals and figure about 5 to 6 hours. Does this sound right and is it worth it. It is a stainless steel tub

Re: maytag legacy series washer leaking

Price is right. Repair time is right for an inexperienced repairman. Worth it ? If you watch what you are doing and not rush then, yes, it's worth it.

Loud noise, leaking and spinning so hard the agitator spins off-bought in 2007. I have been told that it is a "bad" bearing and seal. AND that it would cost more to repair that if I bought a new washer. ...

If in fact the seals and bearing have gone bad the repairs can be expensive indeed.
Maytag does have a program that gives you warranty for 5 years on the transmission itself and such repairs can be counted as such.
I would check with Maytag to see what kind of reimbursment they can give you (

Legacy leaked on floor and subsequently ruined gararge ceiling. I put a wash in yesterday, filled it shut it off and left it soaking. I returned home from my errands three hours later to an 3/4 empty SS...

Its most likely the tub seal at the bottom, check and see if the area inside is wet in the middle. You will need to remove the outer panels to do this. It doesn't sound like anything else if the water was left to sit so a replacement of the seals around the center shaft should fix this problem. Let me know if you have any questions about doing this and I would be happy to help.

Water leak

If the main seal is leaking there will typically be a splash line around the inside of your washer cabinet. There is a special wrench available for removing the large nut that holds the inner basket in. This nut is aluminum and can be removed with a chissel if it is stuck. remove the inner basket and you will see cone shaped "NUT" that is covered in cork. There is a torx screw on the side of the cone shaped piece. once the screw is removed then the cone shaped nut can be removed using the special wrench and brute force.

Noisy spin cycle

Hey ****, what you are hearing is the spin bearing. Maytag redesigned the bearing kit on this washer, there must of been a lot of leaks causing the bearing to go bad. They put out a service flash...TDL-0060-B. New seal and bearing kit, part number12002470. You may want to contact Maytag on this for it could be covered. I know you have 5 years warranty on the transmission and If they change that, they have to use a new seal and bearing. back.
